The mod updates to Crysis 2 show what it can be, and Crysis 3 is looking better.
Dunia's use for the Far Cry 2 and 3 games proved it's pretty good.
Source is aging but still holds up pretty well. Likewise Unreal 3 is wearing on me, even if it can still do good stuff.
Finally, whatever engine they use for Metro 2033 is very good, even if it needs some optimization and a killer system to run at max.

The DCS Engine is impressive. The engine used in Aerofly FS has a lot of potential.
Space Engine could turn into something very special.

The Unreal series never ceases to amaze me.
A close second is the Frostbite engine.

Unreal engine has always been quite beautiful.
The source engine is extremely versatile.
Ken Silverman's BUILD engine was amazing at its peak.
Parallax's descent engine was groundbreaking for its 3d when faked-3d fps' were dominating.
Real Virtuality is probably the best LOD engine to date.

Arma and DCS are very good. Every time I play Arma I'm amazed at the graphics!

the Arma games are great for the scope of gameplay they offered.
The other one that comes to mind is Just Cause 2 ( whatever game engine it's running on )- While the view distance isn't nearly as long as Arma, the smoothness and action are outstanding. And the map is HUGE!

Yes, JC2's large map was quite amazing, even if it got by with a small number of object types to help that out. Very few unique buildings, unfortunately.
Still, if they make a JC3 I'm in!

ArmA 2's engine is very good except for some of the character animations and the fact that once your soldier is engaged in an animation (like reloading a weapon) it can't be interrupted until its complete.

The RV4 engine has a completely new animation system which will vastly improve these problems in the engine up to this point!

In no particular order: GoldSrc, Source, Unreal Engine (early versions), Quake Engine (all versions), Voxel Space (all versions), Dark Engine, LithTech (all versions), CloakNT3, Cube, Diesel, Geo-Mod (all versions), Serious Engine.

Once upon a time there was a flight sim called Fighter Squadron: Screamin' Demons Over Europe. 1998 or thereabouts. That was for its time an awesome physics engine. Still one of the best I've ever played. The Grand Prix Legends/Nascar 2003 engine. Probably only eclipsed by iRacing
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

Fighter Squadron was one heck of a flight sim engine. It simulated real air so the surfaces actually moved the plane, it also had almost everything adjustable in the FM set for planes and I could even chose to have one cylinder of a radial a bit different from the others and more. I built a few planes for it and flew it many years.

CryEngine and Bethesda's Creation Engine. Having started a second game of Skyrim, I have to second this motion. Very immersive!
The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

I stumbled over this and felt it would be appropriate in this thread Duke3d code review
