Don't bother with recovery - I don't think it helps. If you get the error, close the dialog and try again - it seems to let you in eventually if you kep trying.

Where the ocean meets the sky
It has been by now reported by lots of players also over at the RoF forum. Mine does not work either.
Have not seen an answer or acknowledgement by 777 or the RoF developers yet - is there any official reaction to this ?

Only recently bought the game and got this error, but it somehow disappeared when I logged in on-line, but only after an hour of pulling my hair out. I hate these games where you don't have complete control of your own property, but are subject to the whims of your 'masters'. I will not be very confident of investing in DLC planes now, this game seems a dodgy investment-what if the company bankrupts? Thank God for the TK model of doing business; what you buy is yours to do what you like with.

I was getting that error but only when using the PWCG GUI Mod.

Have you got any mods installed?

Software of any sort is not an investment.

Do you think Windows is yours? To do what you please with?

If there is one thing to avoid in RoF is the use of mods so I do not use then. Hate to see all those crashes after every update.

Where in my post did I mention Windows? I was talking about games not operating systems.
Every flight sim I ever had, and that includes over a dozen, before I recently bought ROF and that wretched WoP, I could do what I pleased with, in the privacy of my own pc, without having to worry about third-parties. If my FE2 won't start, at least I know it's my problem and has nothing to do with anyone else. I regard many of these sims as having been a great investment, having delivered many hours of entertainment for relatively little money. I just feel uneasy about investing my money in ROF downloadable content, which in itself is top-class content, when incidents of the nature described here occur.

Maybe, but once it's bought it's there for good. No discs to lose or HDD failures will take them away.

I only had the 10005 error once after the update and that was when I loaded the PWCG gui. A quick re install of that resolved the issue.

If it persisted I'd give the recovery option a go. If that didn't resolve it it's time for full re-install of the full game.
Just back up your saved input files.

The point is the feeling of unease. No maybe about it.

There is some sort of small glitch going on with the server. Not everyone is experiencing it. We'll fix it as soon as we can. Our servers have been up and running for over 3 years with well over a 99% up time.

Jason, I am heartened and encouraged by your prompt support. Bear in mind that I only had the game installed about a week when this problem occurred, and would probably have been more sanguine had I had years of experience behind me. It is certainly encouraging to see this kind of dedication.

They are pretty good about being on top of things SkyHigh.
I've had a couple of general issues that everyone faced, which were handled promptly, and a few isolated issues that were singular to my system and a post on the RoF forums in the bugs section got these fixed (generally within a day or so).
From my experience (since the initial release of RoF and also with the open-beta team), Jason and Han work diligently to make sure that the RoF system of online/offline play is available all the time (99% is the best possible scenario, as 100% is not possible).

The one thing they cant do anything about is the frustration of "I have an hour to fly now... what? I cant fly? Argh!" Which is basically the same as "I've just enough time to get to work...what? My wife used all the gas in the car? Argh!" feeling. heh! It happens, but seemingly at the most inconvenient of times.

FWIW, I havent had the current issue that everyone is experiencing, nor the sound bug.

Got the same issue here, no mods and unable to log in all evening and sure, seeing as its back to work tomorrow its frustration, but these guys have yet to let me down personally, and this is the first time I have had any kind of issue with ROF, so I am happy to wait it out for a fix. Its always good publicity for the company when we get an honest post here saying "we got a small issue, but its under control!" Thanks for the update Jason.

Notice how many are now being made? The problem is that "relatively little money" you mentioned. The market for flight sims isn't expanding. While "gamers" are used to buying many games for their top-end PCs at high prices and putting a lot of time in up front and then moving on, "simmers" expect bargain prices, years and years of product life, and good performance on PCs that are years-old because "I'm not upgrading for some sim." But gamers don't go for sims because they aren't flashy and you can't jump in and dominate with an hour of practice. So if sims can't make money selling to more people, they need to make it selling more to the same people. Making a new sim every year isn't cost-effective either, so they need to go the DLC route (which you'll note even TK did, but not for FE2 because his WWI line is dead).

ROF is based on an engine designed for an MMO that never was. Instead it's been heavily modified to give significant offline capability, but it still has that server-tied requirement that will likely never be removed. It would require a huge investment of resources that 777 does not, and frankly never will, have available.

Is it conceivable that 777 could go belly-up and the server we need disappears and ROF is dead? Sure. So don't buy stuff for ROF today with the expectation that in 10 years you'll still be able to use it...buy it for what you can do with it TODAY and for as long as it lasts. I mean, you could be dead in 5 years, we could experience some global catastrophe that means no one has decent comms or even electricity anymore, some insufficiently-bribed-by-video-games-companies-not-to-use-them-as-a-scapegoat politician could come alone and ban all video games that have even the POSSIBILITY of being considered "violent"...

I know people who spent thousands on a library of VHS movies and TV shows. Guess how long THAT will last before they wear out?
