I fly a medium lift helicopter by trade, so I went for the EMS version of the medium helicopter for a free flight. It actually felt pretty decent after tweaking some of the controls, and getting Track IR working. The only thing that felt wierd was the sensitivity of the yaw axis in forward flight. It should be relatively sensitive at a hover, but as you get forward airspeed, the aircraft should become more stable in the yaw axis. It pretty much felt the same whether I was hovering, or flying at 100KIAS. Is this normal in the game, or is there something I should do with my pedal settings?

No-one seems to have noticed your post (or don't know the answer)so I'll just let you know you are not being ignored smile

I can't remember, tbh - I had a few test flights a while back, but I have some health issues with my legs and they have been pretty bad since then, so I can't use my rudders - otherwise I would jump on TKOH and let you know.

As soon as things are reasonable again I'll have a go. I didn't notice anything particularly untoward with my HOTAS/Rudder set-up, but then it was a while ago, so I might have just forgot about it.

FPS and Pinball only for me at the moment (except my retro sims with a twist-stick) frown

Thanks - it's a 'phase' thing, though, now and then it's bad, other times not so much smile

I chewed some extra opiates with my dinner so that I could have a proper go this evening biggrin

I was very surprised at the results. I found that the sim helicopters responded way too much with rudder input at speed.

I tried all 3 types - but I did find that once at anything above crawling pace it would swing (yaw) very quickly, but it would stop after around 70° and go no further until the speed had reduced to not much above a hover.

To my amazement, when I tested the same in an Mi-17 (I have the 'rearmed' install and can fly the ones in ArmA 2 CO) which is supposedly not up to the sim spec of the TKOH machines, it reacted exactly as I would expect. Once you get the speed up, it is very reluctant to respond to the pedals - just a few degrees is all you get and rather sluggishly at that.

So it wouldn't seem to be down to pedal sensitivity.

Hope that helps smile

Yeah, it does. Thanks for taking a look so I know I'm not crazy. I started messing around with the campaign, and was a little frustrated with how squirrly the first aircraft you fly is (I think it's the 412 look alike). It's a very cool idea, but I can see where some people are upset about the flight models. I'll still probably play through, and try to mess with settings to get it smoother with my setup.
