Actually, the issue is related to what you just said. It will take no less time, effort, or money to make a European plane than a US or Russian one. However, the sales may not be as high.

ED must know what percentage of its users are located in which areas, and it's a sad truth that Russian simmers will favor Russian planes and US simmers US planes. Of course there are those interested in diversity, but if you don't have the money to "get them all" and you have to choose? You don't expect the majority of Russian or American simmers to pick a Euro plane over a Russian or American one, do you?

You want a Euro DCS plane? Convince more Europeans to fly and buy DCS! To build it and hope they will come isn't the best business model.

US aircraft have been done to death over the 30 years I've been a virtual combat pilot, and the funny thing is "complainers will complain" you hit the nail square on the head! If any modern sim comes out - especially ED or DCS ones - without US aircraft all you get all over the various forums is people whinging like hell about why there isn't a Hornet or F-16 or Apache. For christs sake, guys, the world doesn't end at the coast of the USA.

Wait, what?

-The year combat flight simulator 3 came put, flanker 2.0 was still pc gamers simof the year.

-LOMAC is 2/3rd russian aircraft

-Agruably the greatest WWII sim of all time is IL2.

-the first third party DCS fighter is looking to be the MIG-21

-In general, the F-16 is a very international aircraft at this point, and its multirole capabilities amd various model/block specs make for a compelling sim subject.

Wow, lots of great revelations! I just hope those aircraft all meet the existing extremely standard of quality we've come to expect from DCS.

I'm really excited about the F/A-18 as long as they extend the realism outside of the cockpit to include realistic carrier operations.

I'm also really excited about the Hind and the Cobra if they're done to DCS standards. I loved Gunship 2000 and the Jane's Longbow sims back in the day and Black Shark is probably my favourite sim of all time. I never really considered myself a rotorhead, but I do seem to gravitate towards helicopter sims. I guess I just like being the sneaky sniper.

The new theatres have piqued my interest, too. I would really, REALLY love the kind of Kola Peninsula theatre that we had in Jane's F/A-18. Even though it might not be a particularly likely real world scenario, I grew up during the Cold War and the whole Western Europe and US versus Russia scenario still has a huge allure for me.

Regardless, I'm going to enjoy any and all new content that comes my way. Can't wait for the first releases to begin rolling out. smile

It's going to be interesting to see how they work out aircraft that require a 2 pilot crew. I'm thinking for the Hind and Cobra. How well will it work with one player working as the pilot, and the other as a gunner. How will Single Player work out. That would be an awesome multiplayer experience though if you were to do it with a friend

They will. What you're seeing from DCS: P51/BS2/Warthog is their "standard". That's why some 3rd party devs aren't "official" DCS releases. The Mig-21 by Beczl is though. Because he's modeling it to their exacting specs.

I agree, two seaters will give co-op within a co-op and it's gonna be a blast just like it was in LB2!

I remember ED had experimental code for two seaters back in LOMAC 1.x. Really looking forward to these two seaters helis and planes (F-15E and F-14) in development but there is another thing I really hope getting fixed and thats the AI tree LOS issue currently plaguing the DCS engine.

That is a design choice, the problems that would arise from curing this with available technology would completely break the game.

Design choice or not it still sucks when AI can see and shoot thru trees IMO. I'm aware of ED working on a new graphics engine (EGDE) where this hopefully is solved but the big question is when it's going to be released?

I'm quite diapointed though that it'll be a :
F-18C instead of the E
and a F-15C instead of a E

I know others a doing them, but I can't be 100% sure of the quality they'll have.

Eager to know in wich order, wich 1 of all those is going the be the 1st to be released

Doesn't bother me about the Hornet model as any will great but agree on the F-15C, the Strike Eagle is far more interesting.

from what I know there's at least 2 third party devs building F15Es for DCS.

I'm a crappy pilot, but one hell of a shot.

Maybe this is a stupid question but are these 3rd party devs working together or are they creating redundant builds on the same aircraft?

99% sure it's 2 seperate aircrafts.

And, for now, I don't think IRIS will release anything soon. It's been month since the last update, and the only think they post on Facebook is some pics about a PC-12 for FSX sigh

If the upcoming maps stay consistent in size with the current one, I'll happily take an "old" Hornet over a "heavy" Hornet any day of the week, since I imagine there are less systems on the -C that are still classified, and there's no need for the additional fuel the Rhinos carry.

no need for more fuel, but having 2 more pylons for bombs/missiles is nice too ready

Ill take anything with an afterburner at this point....

And iris makes a habit of sub-contracting various aspects of AC development, so fsx dev efforts dont mean they abandonded dcs.

In general, most of these devs are probably heads down getting oriented with the SDK, and building put flight models, systems, and general research into thier subject planes. Silence is to be expected.
