Ok. I know I'm getting a punch taken off my awesome card, but how do I get english ranks (in the campaign start drop-down box) when using HSFX 6.x atop of 4.11.1?

Copy rank.properties and rename it rank_ru.properties in your IL2/Missions/Campaign/GB folder. Don't forget to back up your original rank_ru.properties just in case.

That's how I've changed most of the things in my game, that I personally enjoy having.
There is a 'Merlin' on these forums that taught me some "magic" tricks, actually simple ways to alter the game to my taste, when playing off line. I've taken his advice quite a few steps farther, and now have a game that plays the way I enjoy.

I didn't know of any drop down tabs for ranks, and I have HSFX 6 patched to 4.11.1 also. But my ranks show up as American, and I have only ever played the American campaigns....so I suppose at some time I too, must have changed that properties file. But then again, I've probably changed quite a few of them, and not just the properties files

I just back them up, and if it doesn't work, I paste the old one back.
I even change the faces of the pilots, to friends of mine.... .

I have the same problem after upgrading to HSFX 6.0 on 4.11.1. Some ranks remained in English, most ranks are now shown in Russian as well as most of the mission briefings. I've been playing for years and simply dont understand the answer/solution. What do you mean "Copy rank.properties and rename it rank_ru.properties in your IL2/Missions/Campaign/GB folder." Copy from where to where? I dont have any careers for GB. Somebody have an answer???

He means make a backup copy of the file somewhere, just to be on the safe side.
Then simply rename that specific file to the new filename.

FIND rank.properties
Back it up somewhere
RENAME rank.properties to rank_ru.properties
