Can't see me getting a PS4 under those circumstances and I really like my PS3 since my joystick and racing wheel work on both it and my PC.

I'll wait to hear the rumors confirmed, but worst case it doesn't seem that different from Steam where we aren't allowed to sell used games either.

And if PSN follows the Steam model they will also sell older games with price cuts since they'd prefer to make some money off older games instead of letting Gamestop make all the money off the used sales, already this holiday season they were doing that, I picked Test Drive Ferrari on PSN for $20.

Yeah, if it means pc game pricing, then I'm all for it. Even if the still start at $60 that first few weeks. I never even buy used games anymore, too many are in poor shape or not even an original case. I do sell off most "day 1" games on amazon, but I can give that up if pricing gets better. Most games I get these days are on steam sales for very little though.

To be honest, I very rarely buy new games and just wait to see them either at cash converters (scored Moh Warfighter Nations for £6 when it was £45 down the road at Game) or onsale in a games shop.

Secondly, I like getting cheap games from Cash Converters (never paying more than £8 for anything) and once done Ill take em down to my local game shop and trade them in for more than I paid for them 20 feet down the road

Both 2013 consoles will have active DRM, once you register a Game, it's locked to that account.

If you buy a used PS4/Xbox8 game, you'll have to pay for a new Key to use it.

Better make some good games if that's the case.

They already do this with steam games :), most game companies support it, as they are tired of losing money from 2nd hand sales.

You cant lose money you never had to start with

Sony needs to be less arrogant this time around. Their big undoing was that they felt developers should make PS3 exclusives (which drive your platform over competitors more than anything) because it was a 'privilege.' At one point, I believe the CEO came right out and said as much.

MS on the other hand paid for exclusives. If your a dev, one of those platforms is very attractive to develop for all the sudden...

Ironically, Sony simply didn't want to play the console maker/Developer relationship 'game.' A shame, as I too believe Cell had great potential.

Sony restricted Licensing from MS for an External BR Drive on the Xbox 360.

Even though it was only gonna be used for Movies, That's like saying they dont want the extra BR Player sales.


PS3 was a Marketing Nightmare, as it cost too much, too much money was lost on each unit, and there wasnt enough games to make money back on the hardware.

With Gamestop selling used games and keeping 100% of the sale, developers, publishers and Sony are getting screwed, as it's their IP and End users pay for the License to play the game, NOT THE GAME.

I've posted on used games before, and I believe that if they nixed Used Games, the Console and PC Gaming community will be better off.

And with that 100% Profit margin on used games, what do they offer the customer with all that prophet margin, not a darn thing. They pay you $2.50, $5.00 for the game and turn around and sell it for $35-$55.

It's usually only $5 less for used game, I'd rather pay the $5 more and make sure the Publishers and Developers get their Paychecks.

New Games are Sold on Consignment, Gamestop Claims they are getting ripped off with the % of Consigment they pay, but Im pretty sure that % would go down if Sony and Publishers werent losing money to Used Sales, which are in Violation of the End User License Agreement in the back of the book for the game and the console.

Used Game Disc sales arent gonna stop, but 3rd party transferring of Licenses will.

You can buy a used disc at game stop for PS4/Xbox~, but you'll also have to pay full price for a New License to activate the DRM for the Game on your console.

It might not be as much of a boost as they think. A lot of the time, a person will trade in games to offset the cost of buying a new game that came out. So the money is re-invested into buying a new title...so a financially challenged gamer might not be buying that new title without the ability to sell games to afford it. Practically every time I'm in gamestop...there is a someone doing this.

I guess I just don't understand what makes the video game industry so damn special. Buying new things and selling them to someone else that can use it at a lower price when your done with it...has been going on since the dawn of time. It's pure arrogance of someone to tell me when I buy their product I have to keep it on my shelf forever...or throw it in the landfill.

I wouldn't underestimate the used game debate. If one console has the DRM and the other doesn't...it might be enough to put the console that doesn't on top by a very large margin. Gamestop's annual used game sales are around $2 billion...that's not counting other used game retailers...that's a lot of pissed off console customers.

if they want to sell more units than the ps2, such locking of abilities would be a no go. it should be backwards compatible, with little or no drm, it should be a smooth user-friendly experience, with as little frustrating inconvenience as possible.

It probably wont be backwards compatible because of the architecture switch. AFAIK They have already announced that it will allow used games, but, a quick google search shows it both ways.
