That's all I am asking; I am probably going to score a new rig in the not too distant future; given WinXP is no longer going to be serviced I needed to know if IL2-1946 is 'do-able' on Win-7 &/or Win-8.

What say this great site?

Thx

Works fine as long as you do not install it in the program files. Put it in its own folder on the C drive. salute

So just unzip it to the "C" drive (or whichever...) and it's good to go?

A silly peripheral question about Win-8: Does the 'touch screen' aspect have any effect on the game?

Make a copy of your current install on the XP computer and then paste it into your new computer. Run the setup .exe and it will create a new conf.ini for your new setup. Everything should be good to go now. You can even run the install from a thumb drive if you don't want to install it to your new computer or just to test it to make certain everything is working properly.

As mentioned do not under any circumstance put it in the Program Files folder.

A couple of earlier post of mine on this subject.

The first thing that will probably help you would be to create a Games folder and not use the Program files folder. Windows 7 doesn't like things being changed when it is in that folder. Moving everything to that folder and patching it there might just be enough to get your problem solved.

Here are some articles in the Knowledge Base at M4T that I think might help you.
Installing on Windows 7 systems: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&cat=85

IL-2 1946 Installation and Patching Guide: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&op=show&kid=584

If the articles don't give you the answer you need the Installation and Patching forum should.

Hope this helps. smile

It is my opinion that Windows 7 is causing the problem since anything that is placed in the Program Files is much harder to alter. You should be able to move the entire "Ubi Soft" folder out of the "Program Files" folder into another folder on your C drive. I use a folder named "Games" so its easy to remember. Moving the sim out of the "Program Files" folder will bypass the extra security features of the Program Files folder.

Default:
C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles - Windows XP
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles - Windows 7

Altered:
C:\Games\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles

You will also need to create a new desktop shortcut or alter the filepath in the existing desktop shortcut to launch the sim from your desktop.

If you have more than one game in the "Ubi Soft" folder then create a "Games" folder and a "Ubi Soft" folder inside of the "Games" folder and move the "IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles" folder into the "Ubi Soft" folder.

After moving the sim to the Games folder the "Squadron" file should be editable.
