OK new work done....not thrilled with the center keyboard console. I will probably build a new one later, that is the one part I actualy didn't have planned...I had a hard time deciding if I wanted a center stick but I think Mechs need a side mount stick, HOPE YOU LIKE IT....

This was extreamly easy no cutting wires, no soldering, and dirt cheap. so I'm not going Dismantle the throttle so you can see the obvious!
Simply remove the arm from throttle hand piece and and cut it in 1/2.
Pay Attention where you cut it!!!!! see all pics below (this is important !!!!!!!)

use channel aluminum, you will have to remove some plastic from each 1/2 of the arm to get the channel fo fit in.
Don't remove it all just enough for channel to fit the way you want...the more you leave the stronger it will be. If you look at the hand piece in the pic below, you can see how I cut in the channel and left plastic for strength.

check length of channel to make sure you dont have it too long or you will have to cut and add wire for length + it gets a bit flimsy... I had to cut mine down twice. It was way to flimsy and alot longer than it realy needed to be. (the wire length is longer than you would think). the channel should fit down in each piece of throttle arm as far as you can without blocking wire holes...

shape aluminum to desired angle. you can make it easy and just leave it straight but the bend made it feel more natural to me

use a second piece of channel on the inside to add strength and cover wires...Obviously drill the channel without the wires through it!
Be careful to not cut wires when putting screws through everything its a tight fit and you may have to split (not cut) the ribbon cable to allow for screw placement.

sorry for the cheesy MS paint pic I dont have Auto Cad

oh I painted it flat black I should have used simi-gloss or regular gloss black... but im cheap and its not very noticable (except in these pics with a flash LOL) kinda looks like white or silver due to flash. I may repaint it before I do the final install it in the pit

.

MORE PROGRESS havent cleaned up saw dust yet, but I had to show it anyways!!!!

The small grey speakers are from my old pit. They are just sitting there as a moc up but they will be replaced with the same look. They will lift up like a door revealing a storeage box (kinda like a glove box with a speaker in the door.

Behind the throtttle the ash try will be replace with a new one. lol

OK more progress....

1st the door.... I had to cut out some wood to lighten the load.
I already skinned it with light press board but dont have pics of that I will post them when I take em.

also the you will notice the door cuts are not straight they are covered with pressboard so they are not seen.

the door is ran by screen door pistons I used 2 but will have to add 2 more for safty...i have a kid and dont want it slaming down on her + it will function smoother

This pit looks nice. Really nice. The touchscreen and the MFD Cougar panels blend in very nicely, though additional screens behind each MFD panel would be even nicer.

Bonus points for not making KB+M input completely unusable or missing like a lot of simpits do; this gives me ideas on how to build a general-purpose cockpit that isn't overspecialized to the point of only being usable for flight sims.

I'd also like to know how you modded toe brakes into those RCS pedals; the pinout's readily available, but I'm not sure how I'd approach it mechanically.

Ill take some photos but ill try to describe it...my approach was realy a streak of luck. 1st you have cut away the bottom part of the base allowing the pedal to pivot...obvious enough, I used 2 springs in the heal of each pedal to return it back to normal position (spring strenght to desire).

ok the mechanical connection was done using a pot, an Rc Plane/car balljoint linkage (you can get them at any desent RC shop.) and a bicycle tire spoke cut at rim not hub ( this is important).
I placed the pot in the base of the pedal. I used big knobs and attached an arm with the balljoint ball attached to the end of the arm. I then drilled a small hole in the pedals side by the toe end and then threaded the bicycle spoke through that hole ( I did not have to bend it as it was prebent after it leave the hub heading to the rim i then clipped it to lenght and then added the cup end of the linkage and snapped it on the ball.

************ found a photo in my files************

side note**** I dont recall if I press fitted or epoxied the spoke to the RC ball linkage

also Ty for the comments about the KB/M set up...in the pics above you can see that when I remove the stick I am able to drop a hinged shelf designed to fit over the stick base that becomes a mouse pad just for KB/M games its attached to the side of the sim...track balls are ok but I prefer a gamming mouse

A few new photos

1st is the door cover...when I added the cover on, the wheight was a bit heavy... so I temporarly had to add a rope, pully and counter wheight I had laying around untill I can afford 2 more screen door pistons (sad isnt it..they are only like $12 a piece lol)

The box with the silver hoses is a air purifier that I am using as a smoke evacuation system (im a smoker) its not installed yet.

You could go the counter-intuitive route, and paint flames on the top of it to match your seat cover... smile

That looks great hotwire. I know first hand what a pain making those angled panels can be, so good job!

They say "If you didn't fail, how would you learn?"... I learn a LOT!

1994 Mazda protege from a salavage yard with a $10 Big Lots seat cover, If I had my choice I would have picked somthing more like a vett or racing style seat but thoes were picked clean...it is comfortable, I actualy had a real ejection seat at one time but decided I'm not going to eject through the roof of my garage and I have a bad back....I went the comfort route.
