My guess is the eagle didn't het a good grip on the kid because of the jacket and couldn't get to altitude quickly enough
so it had to drop the child to fly away from the incoming father.

I would like to know how he was going to explain that to anyone if the eagle had been successful and there was no camera filming it to prove what had happened.

Over the hills and far away.
Djeez, awesome bird!!!
Luckely the child was unharmed, now he/she has a story to tell about a failed air-kidnapping! biggrin

Seriously, happy that the kid is okay!!

My best regards, Kodiak.

Maybe it was an eagle from Middle Earth?

Golden Eagles grab lambs now and then up here...but usually stick to smaller "easier to carry" stuff. The parents are lucky that the bid didn't mange to gain much height before it lost its grip !

There is a good bit of Native American lore about birds snatching kids/people. I'm sure it's happened before.

As with most crazy videos on the web, this eagle video is very high in the fake rank. Have a look here:

Like anything on the net there's always the possibility of it being fake and this one is really well made.

Yeah, if you watch the slo-mo zoomed in, you see that towards the end, the kid is still undulating and rising even when the eagle has let go.

Thanks for that link.

When I looked at it yesterday, people were already pointing
out in the comments that 1)Montreal had been under snow for
three days, so it had to be older than that, and 2)nothing
had made the news, immensely unlikely for something like that.

I thought, hmm, dec. 18th, christmas exams are done at the
film school's animation department, and the kids have their
semester project just sittin' there... Seems like the
write-up in the link above more or less confirms my suspicions.

EDIT: ooops, sorry the link to the school was down in the comments,
here's the source: http://blogue.centrenad.com/2012/12/19/c...-eagle/?lang=en
