Hi all.
I'm pondering on a self-imposed Christmas graphics card treat to run ROF in full glory and some Clod. My Current GPU is rather noisy and under-powered. Budget in the region of £400. I'm looking at Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition Windforce 3X 3072MB and the EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Classified 4096MB. The HD7970 is way cheaper than the GForce and seems to offer a better bang for buck.
Questions if you please: 1) What does ROF require to run in full eye-candy/smooth frame rates at 1600x1280 res? 2) Any recomendations on which graphic cards I should be looking at?
Many thanks and really looking forwards getting into ROF and the whole WW1 flight sceen.
My curent sys specs:
GeForce GTX 560Ti 2048MB i5-2500K 3.30GHz (@4.2) Asus P8Z68-V GEN3 Intel Z68 OCZ ZX Series 850W Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Win7 Pro 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB P8Z68-V GEN3 Intel Z68 BitFenix Shinobi USB3.0 Gaming Case Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit DVD±RW SATA Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler 24" LCD monitor @ 1920x1200 (native)
PS Well done Jason on merger, exiting times ahead.

Didn't think of that dutch, thx. What would 2 GeForce GTX 560Ti's relate to in performance gains? Will this also mean I get double the noise?
Wodin, I hear ya thx. Got that upgrade itch and if not I would most probably blow it on Christmas drink and drugs anyhow...:). I was thinking along the lines of selling my existing GPU to off-set the cost of the upgrade for the ATI Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition Windforce which is currently going for £350 here in UK(I reckon I could get at least £100 for my existing GPU).

Also if memory serves, I'm not sure if Clod supports SLI-ness.

I just went from two 5870's to a single 7970 3GB Ghz Edition card. I play in Eyefinity resolutions up to 6052x1200 (Bezel compensated). The 7970 Ghz Edition REALLY made a difference from my 5870s...

Sounds great Argon, thx.
I've narrowed my GPU upgrade to the two following cards:
1)MSI HD 7970 Lightning BOOSTED Edition 3072MB GDDR5 £359.99
2)Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 £348.99
The MSI is on a today only special (£40 off from a well know UK online retailer) which brings it down to within my budget. The Gigabyte's on a "this week only" and is about £10 cheapper.
I am swaying towards the MSI.

Also if memory serves, I'm not sure if Clod supports SLI-ness. Clod does support SLI only not AMD CrossfireX, but you can always ask this on the 1c or ubisoft forum. Keep in your mind that if you want to run, not on on high resolution only 1600x1200, that HD7970 would be a waste. That 560 is still a good card, but if wanting to flush $$$, then get the GTX680, nVidia does have better drivers for RoF [and maybe also for Clod], read fifi's posting on the official forum and you will see he got better eye candy using nVidia adjustments then Rof's own adjustments. This I can not do in the HD7970 Catalyst settings, still have to use the old not efficient RoF adjustments. Hope one time 777 will upgrade them. Another point if going for a non reference cooler be aware those multi fan coolers do spread the heat in your pc case, so extra exhaust fans needs to be considered. I had this when using a HD4890 VaporX. Good luck, these are only my 2 cents on that, the decision is all yours!!!

I have a single 580 3gb. Does everything I need (CloD,RoF and any other game my son cares to throw at it).
