Hey everyone,
So, I've been waiting and waiting for a fixed wing jet to come out for DCS, but in the meantime I've been getting back into FSX. I've bought A2A's P-51d with accusim and love it! Been looking at mods now, and got REX, some Orbx scenery, and I'm really enjoying the game again. (I have a new rig also so that helps)
I figured I'd try out some military jets while I wait for the Hi-fidelity DCS: Next, do any of you have recommendations for a really accurate/realistic Military jet for FSX?
I've heard of VRS F-18 superbug, and I know they have Tacpack in beta now. Also Milviz and IRIS have an F-15E that looks pretty promising.
I'd like to start with one to see how I like it, but I'm a big fan of accurate start-up procedures, Flight models, etc.
Thanks!

@Tank0000. In the screenshot of the Harrier over the supertanker, do you know what the wake effect is? I was just looking at the Nimitz today and thought it would be great to have a bow wave and some foam running along side the ship. It looks more like a static eye-candy bow-wave on the tanker model than a replacement for FSX's effect.

I have the Melviz f-15E and I enjoy it but from what you say I would go for the VRS Superbug. It's awesome even though we are waiting for TacPack. I Own Both (and am also part of the TacPack Openish beta) and IMHO, the VRS 'Bug is better product, albeit on a pretty slim margin. It should be noted that once TACPACk sees public launch, the next step for VRS is a TACPACK SDK for third party developers to integrate TP weapon code into their own aircraft and weapons. It's my understanding that MilViz plans to bulldoze all their current weapons code and plugins (basic functionality, but not up to to TP standards) and adopt TP as the weapons driver behind their F-15E product. The big difference to me can be felt in the controls of the Bug vs Hen. VRS did exstensive code on the Fly-BY-Wire system in use on the Bug, aided largely by a real world engineer of this system. I'd say that the Bug is up to A2A standards in having a very 'organic' feeling flight model. It is remarkably smooth. The F-15E on the other hand, feels a bit more 'snappy' then I would think a plane that heavy should. This means, that as far as a new Bug customer goes, you'll get weapons before Mudhen drivers, but not by more than a month or two (my best guess).

Hey everyone I appreciate all your feedback! I went ahead and purchased VRS Superbug, and even though I have less than an hour (can't do cold and dark start yet by default) I'm really loving it! I've been going through the first tutorial and so far it's exactly what I was looking for. Great FM, I can click all the buttons I want in the cockpit, use the MFDs, Radar, etc. I even love how you can use the built in FSX flight planner to make waypoints and such in your Flight Computer. The only thing I have to do is set up all my joystick controls. I have an X-52 and I'm not sure how to set up the hat switches and all that other good stuff yet without the joystick software. (I usually like setting up my controls in the game vs created a profile out of game) Thanks again and I'll be busy with this guy for a while before I need to look further, I haven't even tried carrier ops yet

Dave that looks awesome! I can see you're probably using REX, is that one of the add-on carriers also?
EDIT: I see IRIS and RAZBAM have some things on sale as well, a bunch of $5 titles from RAZBAM and 50% off for IRIS. I was looking at the IRIS F-14 and I hate to say it, but it doesn't seem as polished as their later work (from the screen shots,) same with RAZBAM. The new RAZBAM harrier (which isn't on sale) and the IRIS F-15E look great, but they're both regular price.
Oh well I'll be busy with the Superbug for the time being!

Dino's also working on an overhaul of his F-14, and will be releasing his awesome F-35 as Freeware. I can vouch for that one too
