...from which the Spit doesn't look perfect?

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

The financial angle! hyuk hyuk

No, she's a beautiful bird, all around. Would love to see one in person, not to mention hear the purr/roar of that magnificent Merlin of hers.

I have a blasphemous confession: I like the looks of the P-51 better.

Now, don't get me wrong. The Spit is immensely beautiful, but the P-51 has something poised and purposeful about it. You might say that while the Spitfire is a work of beauty that happens to be a great aircraft, the P-51 is a great aircraft that happens to be beautiful*.

* Which is horsecrap, of course. Both aircraft were designed for optimum aerodynamic performance.

I saw a Mk.Vb at an airshow one day. Pretty rare, with types fitted with later Merlin versions and Griffon engines being a lot more common. Problem was she was sharing the flight line and the skies with a Bf 109G-10 and a Morane 406, and the sound didn't make as big an impression on me as the other two did. The whistling 109 and the weeping Morane just gave me goosebumps.

Cheers

Nico

I bet she looks & feels even better with my posterior firmly planted on the seat, one hand on the stick and the other on the throttle. All above a sea of clouds of course cool

Cheers,
