I though the balloons issue was a known bug that will be fixed soon?

I was just waiting to see if anyone asks for them to break the career missions more because they work too well...
Seems to be the pattern for most requests.

Like most, I started out in RoF with the tutorials, then progressed to the single missions offline. As time went by, I moved to the Career Beta and haven't left. Sure, my AI comrades don't often do what I'd like, but I tend to fly the mission in the manner that appeals to me while working to accomplish the stated goal whether they come along or not.
At the same difficulty settings, I find the enemy AI to be markedly easier to manage in Career Beta than in the single mission mode even when in a large furball. Considering the variance in experience during the war, I find this to be more realistic than with the enemy sharpshooters I encounter in the single missions, especially when flying against two-seaters. The balloons seem to take a lot more punishment that I expected and the winch-down makes them even more difficult.
One thing I do find a bit frustrating is not getting a score credit if I make it home and have any kind of landing incident. Even a prop strike that leaves the airframe intact will be shown as a crash when it obviously was not. All in all, I'm having a blast in Career B mode.

Hey Jason! Not to hound you or to hijack a thread, but while we're on the subject, were there any plans to slow down the AI wingmen or flight leaders? They seem to fly way faster than I ever can (I use automatic mixture and radiator), and as such I'm always left behind :C Strange thing is i find them too slow most of time. German side mainly. In fact, their crusing speed is 140 Km/h wich is kind of normal anyway.

They do fly too fast for my taste, but have to say, depending on plane type etc, I can usually keep pace and formation by managing my aeroplane correctly (adjusting mixture and radiator settings when climbing etc) but sometimes I think people can't keep up because they place their machine in the wrong attitude, (too steep an angle in the climb) and of course they gradualy drop behind and can't keep up. Similar in some respects to IL2 where the AI fly flat out everywhere, and just one mistake on your part can mean that you never catch up. Also, if you find yourself lagging behind, make sure you are actualy keeping an eye on the map and that you are actualy navigating, not just following.. you can then anticipate a waypoint change and turn early to 'cut the corner' and meet the formation in good time..

Apologies if this has been asked/answered recently, but speaking of the career... Any chance we'll be able to start with a higher rank sometime soon?
Might alleviate some of the minor ai issues to just be able to go "hey, follow me!" Plus, it would just be nice to be able to pick a higher starting rank. If I'm not mistaken, and I'm speaking from memory here, so It's highly possible I am, you can choose a higher rank in your pilot profile when you start a career. It should be on the same screen as what year you were born, what your family background is, etc. It should be a dropdown selection box.

You can start out at any rank up to and including the highest rank that you have achieved in the Career. For example, if in your career you advance to the rank of Hauptmann then you will be able to start any other new career up to including that rank or equivalent rank for other nationalities.
"I have only two men out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." 1stLt. Clifton B. Cates, USMC in Belleau Wood, 19 July 1918

Yep, there are six ranks in total for each nation. If you reach the highest rank in one nation, you can start out at the highest rank for any other nation.
