Strange story about John McAfee (yes the anitvirus guy) I read today ...

Quote:
“Under no circumstances am I going to willingly talk to the police in this country,” he told me (Wired Magazine) this afternoon. “You can say I’m paranoid about it but they will kill me, there is no question. They’ve been trying to get me for months. They want to silence me. I am not well liked by the prime minister. I am just a thorn in everybody’s side.”

Reads like a story from Far Cry 3! LOL!

The fair thing for authorities to do would be to give McAfee a free 30-day trial.

McAfee could claim he had a virus at the time, but I wouldn't buy it.

Ha ha, very funny ... he’s only been protecting computers around the world from viruses for over 20 years. Now you guys are joking because he’s been accused of murder?!

Please continue ... you’re making me laugh biggrin

Seems he is off the hook, they have arrested three suspects in the case.

Three have been detained, not arrested. I wouldn't say he's off the hook either.

I think he's still on the run because he thinks the cops will try to kill him while in custody. Really bizarre. I’d say the murder is the least bizarre thing about this whole situation.

After the dot-com bubble burst, the guy's worth went from 100 million to about 5. He got freaked out, sold the company, and then looked for a place where the money he had could last him until he croaked.

He settled on Belize. The problem, of course, is that he settled in an area known for narco trafficking with an extremely corrupt police force. The wealth that he kept on hand at his house drew attention and the police raided his house as a suspected drug smuggling hideout. And then things went downhill from there.

Get that sick son-of-a b@#6h outta there. That's where i was born. Back in '69 there were a steady influx of evangelicals, two of whom fled the country with their teenage-underage "sex slaves, leaving there wives and families behind. We never had cops carring guns untill the mid 70s and that was due to drug trafficking. Cops were issued the lee enfield .303 then the 7.62 SLR and a hand gun, but it was not carried on duty. There was always some corruption, but this mainly increased as a result of the influx of refugees from the war between honduras and el salvador. We got the worst of that bunch. The Zabanehs became a very corrupting influence in belizean politics. Insurance fraud, by fire was a typical tactic. I am very disturbed by the influx of so many people with lots of cash to belize. Hell we did fine when all we had were brits, canadians, menonites, australians, some kenyans, and a few south africans Where I was born, right on the beach, a belizean no longer has the money to buy a damn lot. We were mostly catholic, anglican, some methodists, baptists, and a few jehovah witnesses. It was live and let live untill about '69, then the immigrants started to corrupt the whole frigging place.

OK...I have to say it. His Antivirus software really sucks.
As far as his whole ordeal. I would'nt know and don't really care. It's his problem. But for a time, his virus protection was my problem. Worst software ever!

You are correct. There, it only takes a pittance ( a few thousand dollars) compared to the hundreds of millions (billions) of dollars to do it here.
#%&*$#, look at what is happening in Kenya. Execution for homosexuals? When is it O.K. to export this type of insanity? I earned my citizenship thru' military service during a time of war. But I still love my country, the country where I came into this world. If you could have seen "British Honduras" now Belize back then, you would immediately understand my disgust!
