Make sense to you..it looks like you don't get a full game either MMO or SP unless 5 million come sin..if not your at an alpha only state..seems very odd, The SP doesn't surprise me..I have nofaith they can create both an indepth SP game and an MMO for 2 million..but then put the only comment on the full online game at the 5 million stretch goal is odd...it appears if they get eblow that you get an alpha so without some outside investment to take them to 5 mill you get an unfinished game.

Or Chris really doens't know how to convey info at all...

Go check the website and click stretch goal..

http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen/

Taking $800,000 of peoples money to then announce they need 5 million before they get the full game seems wrong to me..if this is the case.

They're certainly promising something that sounds like WC crossed with EVE, or STO at the minimum, and I also doubt that.

MMOs cost big bucks to get going.

From what I have pieces together it goes something like this.

2 million buys the single player campaign (which can be cooped) along with a private multiplayer game. Once you beat the singleplayer you are given free reign in an open world but there wont be much to do at first.

The 5 million gives you singleplayer, coop and multiplayer but they will add on top a persistent world like eve online.

So, you will still have a free roam multiplayer even at 2million but you wont get a fully fleshed out persistent world with a dynamic economy until the 5 million mark.

Even if they dont make the 5 million stretch goal though he has already stated that he will continue working until the game gets to the 5 million stretch goal point you just wont have it on launch day.

Go to the fan forum and all those aren't bothered as they are adamant it will hit 5 million..I see the blossoming of serious fanboyism growing..

Have some faith Wodin, it was stated (as Master said) all features will be added eventually but at slower rate.

We have to be optimistic and support such initiatives if we want to have good quality PC games, not some console ports.

From the recent released FAQ:

Can you explain the stretch goals?

The purpose of the higher stretch goals is to ensure that the game-as-described is finished in the two year time period. We intend to build the game that Chris Roberts described at GDC Online regardless, but without additional funding we are going to have to do it one piece at a time, starting with Squadron 42, rather than as a single larger production. With more funding we can include more ships, systems, unique locations, animations and cinematic sequences.

If they can get an MMO going for $5 million in 2012 I'll be shocked.

EA would be doing backflips if SW:TOR had cost them $5m and not around 20x that.

Well, there will be more money then just the 2-5 million from crowdfunding. Ideally they get the 5 million and that allows them to get a few larger investors that match or double that. That gets them through the alpha/beta release when they can then start selling the game. Pay out to their investors as they start bringing in money from new sales.

I doubt they could make the game for just 5 million but they never claim they will either.

Quote:
This game is ambitious. If we can raise between $2 to $4 million we have investors that have agreed to contribute the balance we need to complete this game as long as we can validate that there is a demand for a high end PC space game.

Geez... 200K would allow me to work full time on Rogue System for 2 years, with enough left over for legal fees and more. 1 million would allow me to contract up to 4 to 6 people for the same length of time and have money left over for rent, equipment, etc. These guys are trying to build a BIG team smile

How much would it have cost you to legally change your name to Chris Roberts first? biggrin

Guys they have investors who are pledging the big bucks if they reach their milestones of somewhere between 3-5 million, so Chris Robert's isn't naive enough to think he deliver an MMO with all those features for 5 million.

Considering WC4 cost more than $5 million almost 20 years ago...

ouch!
It is good to hear the game will be on the PC. I made the detour into consoles for sim racing and was quite disappointed with the available games and graphics.

Consoles look best about 2 years after their release. The initial wave of release games are hampered by late availability of reliable hardware to test on. Look at Forza. Forza 2 was ok but not a huge step over Forza 1 from Xbox 1. FM3 made huge leaps, while 4 made smaller ones and FH looks to me like F4 with a different focus, and if an F5 was made I'm sure it wouldn't look THAT much better. My guess is F5 will be a "720" launch title, but it will again only be a smaller step past FH...F6/FH2 whatever they make after THAT will be a big leap.

The problem is games really need lots of RAM as well as storage space, and while console HDs got cheap and large, they still have that same launch-day amount of RAM. The 360 has lasted too long for the games now running on it. MS needed it to last so they could turn a good enough profit (especially after the RROD debacle that cost them big in the first couple of years), but the fact is the new Wii U will likely have equivalent abilities to the 360 and they're likely to see a big sales drop.

That's why their denials to the contrary I'm convinced MS wants "720" out for next Christmas if they can at all manage it. No idea about a PS4.
