The Star Wars franchise went from originally being one of the best things for mainstream SciFi to being possibly the absolute worst thing for it. Maybe in 20 years it will get a good, relevant reboot the way it took the better part of 20 years for the Bond reboot to make the franchise serious again instead of feeble camp.

I love this development. Disney has huge resources and they do make good movies and they WANT to make movies unlike Lucas. Like others have said imagine Star Wars written and directed by other talented folks and not totally controlled by Lucas. I wish they would just reboot eps 1-3 and forget about "7" if that is their plan.
I wonder what the long term implications are for Star Wars games? Hopefully, there is the potential for an X-Wing Alliance sequel. Musing fancifully, maybe someone at Disney will see Chris Roberts' Squadron 42 promo, and fund it, changing the theme to a Star Wars one. Okay, that's not going to happen, but I hope that our drought of worthy X-Wing/Tie Fighter sims ends sometime in the not too distant future.
I also wonder what the implications are for fan fiction, films, and mods? Lucasfilm was actually pretty good about it; hopefully, Disney will be broad-minded enough to allow fan generated media to coexist with whatever they have planned.
So, Lucas admits now he lied 10 years ago and what he was quoted as saying 30 years ago was true...he DOES have stories for Ep 7, 8, and 9 already done.
All during the run-up to and making of the prequels he swore up and down that "6 was it", there was no plan for a 3rd trilogy after ROTJ, that was the end of the main story. I guess in 3 years we'll see at least partly what that idea from the 70s for the finale really was.
