I have just bought a Saitek X52 Pro HOTAS and would appreciate any recommendations you have about a good space sim that supports a HOTAS set up.

IW2 is probably one of the best games out there, but a kind of "stylized" space with a lot of color. Incredible game though.
X3...get a cockpit mod...BIG game, very open, but a variety of ways to play. I like it a lot, but it's still a little intimidating and slow to get going. Kind of like Evochron games.
Black Prophecy...combat, a series of missions but fun.

Straight up combat, it's hard to beat Freespace 2 (gog.com), but games like that get old just moving the cursor around to shoot. You should download Diaspora though, possibly the best space flight combat IMO. And free.

If you want real newtonian physics with panetary gravity where you can get out of the ship YOU BUILT, and roam the void in a fictional solar system with little green characters that you just love to blow up..... Then look no further than KSP (Kerbal Space Program).

Like orbiter, not so intimidating and you build your own rockets or spaceplanes.

I was on Black Prophecy a while ago until they announced it was shutting down. Will check it to see if it is still running.
Trying Freespace 2 at the moment, but not getting far with programming :-(
I have a downloaded profile for X3 Reunion V2, so might try that later.

Best mech game? You could get in the beta for Mechwarrior Online. Not sure if they have the HOTAS setup fixed yet, but I think kb/m is better anyway for it. The beta goes open about an hour from now.

Wait two years for Chris Roberts new Star Citizen I'm stoked. Check out the site for some preliminary tech videos here.. Star Citizen. I tried X3 but couldn't get into it even after watching hours of tutorial videos.

Lol @scission, I've been involved with Star Citizen since before the fundraising started ^^ 10 months to Alpha testing !!
Anyway, another question for those who know things - Freelancer is controlled by mouse and keyboard. Ship is steered by pointing the cursor and holding the left mouse button down.
