The Phalanx had a selectable rate of fire, of either 3,000 or 4,500 rounds per minute. That's 50 or 75 a second.

Though really, if you want to compare similar vehicles, you'd be best comparing the ZSU-23-4 with the self propelled M163 VADS, not the static Phalanx. The M163 had a rate of fire of 3,000 rounds per minute.

Probably 50 per sec is around the optimal rof against a Mach1.5 target at 2.5km range.

Slowly the Commanders instruments are getting into life...

... some remarks on Shilka development:

- as we are only 3 of us sitting inside of the Shilka tower, compared to the hundreds of soldiers serving other SAM systems, the startup process is a bit more complicated. (turbine, gyro, hydraulics, firing computer, emitter heating, tube charging ...)
- the sound of the DG-4M1 gas turbine is pretty close to the dentist's drill, so I already hate it... biggrin
- Shilka manuals states when to switch, but not why... banghead
... opposite to all other systems that were covered in SAMSIM before.

- Will startup process be simplified or full(all noted systems above)?

- IMHO when tower hatch is closed; turbine noise is less annoying (isolated from high pitch)

All systems above will be fully simulated, just with reduced waiting times.
For example, while in reality the gyro takes 2,5min to spin up, in the sim it will be reduced to 25s, the anode heating will be accomplished only in 30s instead of realistic 3min etc...

Why not just set it to the realistic times? We have time compression after all that will bring the numbers back down for those who really need it...

I see no point in waiting 3 minutes for one red lamp to turn into white...
... and you cannot do anything else until than.

Commanders upper panel is getting into life.

Are you ready to use the Soviet military angular system by heart?
(East=00, South=15, West=30, North=45)

Shilka radar is much smaller, and less powerful than we used to.
(maximum indicated range is 20km, maximum tracking range is 15km)
It is also cheaper, so you will need to do more switching...

You will also need to learn the Russian Imperial Radial system...
North - 00
East - 15
South - 30
West - 45
... just like the minute hand of the clock.

ps: also the Gun Dish is less valued and less targeted by Weasels and Jamming assets...
