OK, is Marmite anything like Spam or potted meat? It just seems like, like, well, like something weird (to an American, that is).

Just what the hell is Marmite?

Never had it, but I'd try it. Can't be any worse than what's in a hot dog. LOL
Sounds like one of those things you'd hate the first time, but then you develop a strange craving for it. Like Spicy V8.

I love it,especially on hot buttered toast smile

It's a yeast extract spread, rich in vitamin b and 100% vegetarian (just read it off the label)
Guess what I'm having for breakfast?

My mate Marmite!

That Farrow bloke you executed today, are you sure he's dead?
Well I chopped his head off, that usually does the trick.
Yes, don't get clever with me Baldrick. I just thought you might have lopped off a leg or something by mistake.
No, the thing I chopped off had a nose.

It has a tar type texture and is really tangy. Most people who try it for the first time put to much on their toast whatever and end up hating it. Spread it really lightly on buttered toast and it is really good. I've heard of people mixing it in hot water making a sort of broth out of it. Haven't tried the broth yet, but i love it on toast.

..i'm American to by the way...benefits of living in a military family living overseas.

Never tried Marmite as a drink before (not saying you can't of course!)

I like the odd drink of Bovril.Looks the same but is a beef extract.

The broth thing is Bovril, a beef extract. Marmite like that would be yucky. If you've never tried it, it's the main flavouring in the Twiglets snack, or for the more cosmopolitan, like a concentrated miso flavour. I like it, but I can see why people don't (like olives, anchovies, capers etc)

Not as nice as Vegemite, but it still has a good bite to it.
I used to amuse myself by feeding Vegemite to non-Aussies in my travels around the world. The faces they pulled were priceless. biggrin

I've never had Vegemite or marmite but I'd be willing to give them a try. I'm usually pretty open minded with food as long as no animal organs are involved.

Chucky is quite correct, Marmite is life, and is vastly superior to its knockoff antipodean imposter cousin, Vegemite. I shall be gladly purchasing my "Marmife" without delay, possibly the greatest and most inspired innovation in the field of cutlery this world has ever seen.

Recent studies by Cambridge University's "Faculty of highly dubious and questionable things" have revealed that Marmite users have exponentially higher IQ's, greater penile girth, and live 30 years longer on average than their non-Marmite eating peers.

Professor Bogdan Ilyich Rachmaninov goes on to elaborate.

"Yes, it's all true. Data shows that Marmite has unique, Transhydro-thermogeno-Glycomorphic properties that act upon peoples 'brain parts' and this been known to Britons for more than a Century....being a jealously guarded secret to date. It will improve your quality of life and cognitive abilities 10 fold, and it makes you better and more accomplished at pretty much everything. Especially when spread upon buttered toast. Trust me. I'm really f*cking clever, with a big, clever looking beard, and I knows these things. The science is beyond reproach, conclusive and unquestionable".

Professor Rachmaninov has strenuously denied accusations that he is a Corporate Marmite Shill, and that he is being paid to make up silly, highly dubious and nonsensical things with no basis in fact whatsoever.

The case continues.

hahaha
