Howdy,
Long time ago. I wanted to get back to IL2. Got IL-2 Cliffs of Dover but absolutely do not like it at all. So there is IL2 1946 that I got right here. But there also are several mods that you might call absolutely necessary.
So here are my two questions.
First
Where do I find them? And what do I need?
I found the IL2 Ultrapack Mod. But actually it is a bit of a maze of downloads. And heck I don't know what exactly I should download.

The "Modding for beginners" KB article at M4T should get you a long way towards if not all the way to what you want to accomplish. Modding for beginners: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&op=show&kid=654---------------------------------------------------------------- Now for something completely Off Topic. I found a website that I think is yours a couple of years ago. IIRC at that time it was linked in your signature here at SimHQ. All of the links still work except the "Dawn attack defense" mission. The mission with the broken link is the sixth one on the list. Had fun playing most of them even though they were made so long ago. http://members.quicknet.nl/w.hakkenberg/IL2.htmI am hoping that it is your site and that you can fix the link. If it is your site and the email address that is on the website is still one of your emails that you can access then there still might be an email from me mentioning the broken link. Wheels

Thanks for the info! Downloading the UltraPack and the HSFX 6 mod right now. Will install them both. (Different install folder) Received my TrackIR last Thursday! ^^
About the dawn attack defence mission. I have made these on my old AMD Duron 800MHz system. That system has deceased long time ago. Hence I do not have the mission myself either. Sorry.
Thanks very much for the input

Make sure you have backup copies of the unmodded game saved. It will make things much easier. You will have to have at least two, since Ultra Pack and HSFX install over different versions of the game.

I would suggest HSFX which will work hand in hand with the Official Updates and includes it's own updater http://www.242sqn.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3179And to reiterate copy (if you have the room) your entire un-patched install to an alternate location. I actually have had 3 at one time. Rename your shortcuts so there's no confusion Like IL2HSFX and IL2NoMod or whatever you like. This way you won't get anything corrupted through different Mods.

Thanks very much for the input A little saddened but not entirely surprised to hear that it has been lost. I was hoping that it was just a misnamed file at your website that could be found and renamed so the download would work again since all the other download links still work. I am glad that I could help you some with the update process. Have fun with the "new" sim. Wheels

Hi, All,
I'll take this opportunity and ask a related question without starting a new thread. Encouraged by your positive opinions I DLed all the required HSFX v.6 files, made a fresh install of IL-2 1946, patched it to 4.11.1, tested and ran the HSFX installer. Everything went smoothly and the sim works as expected. But (sorry for the dumb question) how do I know I have the HSFX mod installed? My loading screen still shows the 4.11.1 and the UI looks exactly as before. I can't see any differences in graphics either (well, I didn't try all the maps and aircraft available). What's the critical checkpoint then? thx, TG

Thank you very much! I was pretty sure I had missed something, I didn't suppose the installer to be faulty or anything and the integrity of all the DLed files was OK, too. I'm off to try it, be back with a report Edit: Right! Everything looks exactly as you said. I flew a Quick Mission in a MiG-3 Shvak and immediately noticed very different cockpit textures, finer aiming reticle and a lot better sound. The enemy were two Ju-87, I have an impression that the lethality of their rear gunners' fire has been somewhat attenuated, which is good. Unless I come real close they either miss or don't fire at all. The simulation is very smooth on my machine, but how do I check the current FPS count? (msi 970A-G46 mobo + AMD Phenom II x4 cpu + 4GIG RAM; Radeon HD6570 2gig gfx.)

The deciding factor is the new AI, if you want that your only option is 4.11 with HSFX6. My advice is to make a mission in stock 4.10, play it twice then upgrade to 4.11 and do the same playtest again. If you prefer 4.10 version then get the DBW 4.07 to 1.71 superpack. If you prefer 4.11 then HSFX6. If you cant decide get both, because IL-2 doesnt use registry entries so you can have unlimited number of install duplicates each with its own mods setup. Oh and backup your stock folder before you start to experiment with modding.
I'm using DBW 1.71 because it has a separate WW1 addon and usually the latest jets and other cool aircraft work better with it. It also has a lot more open developement process imo.
You would be most welcomed to join sas1946.com!
Cheers Istvan
