I had the same problem as sniporbob by the way - connection interrupted message when I tried to join earlier.

Okay... I'm going to try another mission... one we've had more success with before. I'm wondering if the connection issues may have something to do with the mission- though I'm doubtful because I saw activity in there earlier. We'll see how that works- but I may need to uninstall servman and start over again. I'm not excited to do that but I don't think it's quite working the way it should be. There is no MOTD, and it's difficult to determine if any of its functionality is available or monitoring.

It IS still recording logs- so I know SOMETHING is happening.

Work in Progress anyway.

with that being said, server has been rock solid- just empty!

Re the missions - 2 missions have Mission Editor issues - iShot The Shilka and Thunder Of Kojori - because the Unarmed Watchtower is no longer available. But I dreamed a fix for them last night that I will try next.

All the other missions are fine for editing and saving - hmmm but I do need to check the View settings on all.

So, we are going back to Connection Method = LAN ?

TGIF!

Thanks, Skate - I'll be on later today after work. If this issue comes up again on the Firehouse I will grab the Dcs.log and post it into that DCS Forums thread.

Need to add too - that the History tab does not show anything, anymore.

Good read- going to be tricky getting access to that same log to assist with error reporting unless I'm right at the server... But I am following their progression and can implement their recommended fixes as they appear.

I know the upnp suggestion had come up once before and it didn't work for us.

Thanks skate.

you cant set up the HDD to share over a network or internet?

I think i still run a FTP on my old system, so when i need to retrieve files from a remote its as simple as typing the address/password in IE and navigating folders. but that was WinXP,

with Win7 it should be easier.

FTP has always scared me, with its unencrypted transmission of username, password, and data. I've always used SFTP instead. It does require a suitable client though (winscp, putty, etc...). And I don't know how hard it would be to set up an SSH/SFTP server on windows (its preinstalled on Linux).

We have a good setup in team viewer- just a question of getting whoever is "on" who has access going into te appropriate folder to save a copy of it- then get it submitted... Probably to Nate.

Any troubles today?

Traffic sucked on the way to work. And my sandwich for lunch had seemingly stale bread. Are you referring to troubles with the server? If so, I haven't a clue as I'm not yet home from work.

Edit: made it home and I do see the server on the master list. It shows 6 people in the server. Sadly, I might not be able to play until Sunday or Monday night.

I went in to the server to see 5 guys (plus the server login) beating up on each other good style. I saw Wheel take out a guy named Wild Turkey but then "cookie" came in and smacked Wheel...

The regs are on red and the new guys on Blue... interesting!

Wasn't so hard to go to the dark side after all- was it TC?

Looks like WC was having a few issues earlier but they appear to have stabilized. I'm at work for the night now- but I'll check in on it a bit later.

I learned a little bit about servman last night too- regarding the absence of messages etc... so my understanding is that servman IS running but the custom messages etc are not showing up because of substantial changes to the main.lua. Unfortunately what that means is that while it IS working- if you get kicked for killing certain numbers of AI by accident, or worse killing a human player- you'll get kicked but it sounds like it won't tell you why. You will get connection interrupted notifications for about 5 minutes... then be allowed back in.

Currently I have it set up that if you outright kill a human player, you are kicked outright. I haven't seen us kill each other in forever... in fact I don't think I've ever seen it except in a collision- and even THAT seldom happens.

There are a certain amount of AI friendly kills allowed- but the number is still low. Killing more than this number will result in a 5 minute kick and after 3 such kicks you are perma banned. I saw one guy in ED forums (looks like I still have an account there after all) had a substantial ban list created already and if I can get that list from him and apply it to our server that might help cut out the chaff. I'd need to see if there is a record of what happened to result in the ban- but this function is available in servman... you can add notes about the people who are kicked in the bantables themselves. It's quite handy!

Gosh that was a fun night - and a Friday night, too. Seven were in the mission when I joined with new folks joining in the Blue slots. A couple of us had scheduled time ahead and we went in Red - and were on the TS channel talking to each other. Some other guy hannebele was hanging out on the channel but we were having a gas coordinating the capture of Beslan.

Thing was these Blue slime dogs were hitting us pretty good - to the point where they must have been on a separate commo channel or SUMPTIN. The spit-slimed Blue hound dog boot-lickers seemed to be very coordinated as to what our Red RDR pilots were up to.

This is what Fog Of War looks like - very useful -

General Vaz approaches Beslan - a shivering concept for World Order! -

---

General Vaz' Red Democratic Republic Army has vowed to extend the cause of people all over the globe. RDR forces are pledging to overrun the sands of America and shout 'Meek-torrry' over the "Sinful Citys of Neviada".

---

About the Servman settings -
Too strict on the one kill -
Cobra killed Cookie and got Kicked on one tk. There was no reason to kick Cobra on a mistake/accident.
- besides, Cookie cut up the rest of us all night
Cobra should have been allowed 2? tks before auto-kick? He was gone and never came back.

---

tc observed that if having Connection Interruption problems to go into Options and back out an it will work.

---

General Vaz made it to Beslan. LL Gen Vaz. "Come to dada lake house moi general ~:+^

---

About the ban list thing - needs to have a rebuttal area.

I have simply not seen ANYONE of our guys shoot down any of our own guys by accident... the guy gets multiple chances to come back in (after 5 minutes to think about what they did) before being banned. Unfortunately that's not communicated right now until servman gets updated. I know it's a little severe... that's the price of running an open server. Take your pick... tighter rules or we lock up the server and do it password only. We do NOT want to become a playground for a large volume of smacktards. The faster the careless and indifferent accumulate kicks and get banned, the smoother the gameplay for the people who want to come in and take enjoy it the way its been enjoyed for 6 months.

Rebuttal area is in here or on TS:3- might need to work that into the briefings? It can be over PM- we're not exactly hard to track down.

On another embarassing note- I told nate I'd send him some files... HTF do I do that? I'm looking for the attachment button and I'm not seeing anything? Do I have to hyperlink to it? Sigh. This is what got me in trouble over in ED.

I'm with WC on the 2 teamkill ban. I've been team killed and team killed others accidentally. Its quite hilarious usually. Story time!

My friend and I had been attacking a coastal area. My friend went back to rearm (he was in the A-10) and I was mopping up the stragglers in the shark as usual. The area appeared safe so I flew up to the targets to take a look at the carnage we caused while looking for the last remaining targets. My friend was on his way back and excitedly announced he saw another target on the coast. I told him I was looking but couldn't see said target. My friend locked up and fired a maverick when he got within range. I said I was gonna try to find the target to watch the fireworks. He then said "wait did you just start moving?" I told him "yep, I started moving to a different position so I could spot the target." He responded "because the target I shot at just started moving." There was a moment of silence, then at the same time we both said "Oh, cra-"*BOOM*. Hahaha it was so funny.

When I accidentally teamkilled my friend it was because I unknowingly fired a rocket barrage at the same group of tanks he was strafing. He flew right past the tanks at the same moment the rockets arrived.

Anyway, the moral of the story is, I feel we should allow for these accidents without getting kicked. And if an asshat comes in the server and starts teamkilling he will still get kicked pretty quick with a 2 teamkill limit.

I'm hearing you guys... loud and clear. That's why I have the level set so that the kick level is 1 level lower than our regulars- which will be the squad level (single login). Admittedly, this feature needs some modification... I'm not sure we've ever had it work perfectly (I think some of that was in the placement of a ,) but overall, we need to remember this isn't a comfortable 2 person game on a closed server-

It's an open server that ANYONE can join- the direction I'm heading is that our friends, regulars etc will be grandfathered in to the squad level name and password... and the kick level will apply to the "joiners."

Smacktards KILLED my love for online gaming years ago and A-10 and the community of guys I've encountered since then have really rejuvinated it... I'm sorry the settings are a bit strict- and if bad things happen in game, take your 5 minute break and come back in. If you get banned from another accident- TC, XR, WC, or any other regular are ALL eligible jurors who can get you reinstated-

Other guys who aren't as established, who we don't know... may bear more scrutiny.
