Hi all

Having the devil of a time trying to reinstall this game. Keeps freezing (install stalls) at 74%, when it gets to installing c:\windows\fonts\Intell.ttf

So far I have tried running it without any compatibility settings for setup.exe, and with compatibility settings for XP, Win98 and Win95; and I have tried installing into c: and into Program Files(x86). I've also tried deleting Intel.ttf, no difference. I have made the Windows/Fonts directory read and write as well, no difference.

I'm stumped. Consistently it stops at 74% and then shows as "not responding". I've left it for 10 minutes, no change.

Any hints?

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

thanks in advance

smith

Have you tried copying the contents of the CD onto your hard disk and installing it from there?
Might be worth a try.

I have seen this work with other older games. Not saying this is a 100% for you though.

You might try and temporarily turn off Windows UAC. Create a game directory under C:\. When installing point the installer to the game directory.

I did see stuff online about patches "1.23" and beta patch mig_085_f2.rar. If you decide to use the second patch make sure to install 7Zip and use that to extract.

Keep this updated if you get good results, I may try to install this game on my Win 7 system myself.

Well, no dice trying those approaches. Some further googling on the new-old Frugal's site suggests there are issues with the Euro version which was released in Australia that affect installation on more modern machines.

My options I suppose are to try to track down a US version, or find someone who can let me have a copy of their working install tree.

My CD gives me the choice of english or german, so may be the euro version.

The first attempt to install on Win7 64 Home edition failed at 83%.

What worked for me was:
1. Look at the files on the CD in Windows Explorer
2. Right click on 'setup.exe. and set compatibilty to Win98/ME
3. Right click again, and 'Run as Administrator'

Sounds the same version as me. I have done both those things Mike and no dice. Stops at 74% every time. Must be a quirk with my PC

Thanks for your help though - much appreciated.

Here's an update on my story:

I now have MA working on my Win 7 64 bit machine, with Trackir and my X52 (mostly) working. Here's how:

1. A generous soul sent me a zip of his working install tree (base install), which I copied to my C drive (not in Program Files, but c:\Rowan\mig);

2. I then went into a DOS prompt, then to the install directory, and did the dir *.ocx command to identify the installed .ocx files. I then did regsvr32 for each of them, which gave me a message that each was then registered;

3. I patched with 1.23 and the latest BDG patch (BDG_MiGAlley_085F) - note I didn't use the F2 version, as I understand this is for particular machines, and I didn't set any compatibility for the patches before running them. TT2 didn't finish, but it doesn't seem to have caused a problem (yet);

4. I got some error messages when trying to open the Mig.exe file (using Win98 compatibility) including asking for the CVD (which was in the drive). I then did the no-cd fix which involves copying the smacker (video) folder from the CD to the c:\Rowan\mig folder) and then edited the "ROOTS.DIR" file (using notepad) and changed all references to other drives, to the installed location (c:\Rowan\mig);

5. Then she worked! With compatibility set to Win98 (more on this later) and 'run as administrator' I could get into the menu and set it up, including the Trackir settings (Trackir needs to be already started before you can 'tick' the Trackir checkbox in the setup).;

6. The first load time for a Hot Shot was long - a couple of minutes staring at a black screen. Be patient and don't give up. After a while there I was in the 3D listening to the calls of other pilots and "dentist";

7. Joystick setup - this took some doing. I have an X52 and while the controls setup menu identified it (twice as it happened - as X52 Flight Control System, as well as Flight Stick and Rudder pedals separately), it wasn't working in-game (keyboard only for axes, though stick buttons worked - rudder pedals didn't work). I copied some BoB stick and rudder profiles into the Saitek editor and tried again. No luck. Eventually, I found that selecting the X52 Flight Control system, with the stick set up as 'X-Axis and Z-rotation' strangely, Throttle as 'Joystick Z-Axis' and Rudder as 'Joystick Z-Rotation', I could use the X52, with the twist rudder functioning. Nothing I did would make the rudder pedals work as intended;

8. I experimented with setting the Mig.exe compatibility to Win2000 and got an amazing transformation! Where loading into the 3D workd under Win98 compatibility took a couple of minutes, with Win2000 compatibility, it is immediate! Click on Hot Shots and I am immediately in the cockpit!

9. I need to play in 1152x864 on my 1440x900 monitor - I have black bars down the sides, but a sharp image that is better than stretched resolutions;

10. Hitting the M key for the map crashes the game (screen freeze) with a message asking me to install the CD. I'm going to investigate this some more.

So, all in all - it took a few hours, but I have it running, have messed about in Hot Shots without crashes, it plays all the videos and looks pretty good for an almost 15 year old sim.

I hope this helps some folk.

Thanks for updating this with your results. I'm going to give this game a shot on my new Win7 system when I finish getting it setup. I will use your post when I do this.

Thanks

Another update - I found that with Win2000 compatibility, I lost radio chatter. Setting WinXP compatibility kept the rapid load times and brought chatter back. Tried a bunch of single missions in UN and Red aircraft successfully, as well as starting career and Spring Offensive. All stable.

Going to get my joystick buttons allocated and get into it!

Yep, still an immediate crash/freeze on hitting the M key.

I had the same problem with game freezes when using M. It seems that a number of files aren't copied correctly during the installation of the 1.23 patch, where I had an error "tt2.exe is not a valid 64bit executable" or similar.

Then I installed Mig Alley + 1.23 patch under Win7/32, so there was no "tt2.exe" error, and copied everything over my Win7/64 install. Now everything seems to work under 64bit.

So the solution is either to use a dual boot system and run Mig Alley under Win7/32, or install under Win7/64 and then copy the missing files (in the "imagemap" directory) from another machine. Unless there is a version of tt2.exe that works with 64bit?

Hi all,

I did install this game on Windows 8.1 and I'm able to change settings, no problems...EXCEPT:

My plane won't show!

I can start the game & exit & get back in but my plane and enemy plane won't show.

I followed the instructions above to a T.

A splashscreen shows and my game never "kicks" into simulator mode but works in the background while
the splashscreen is up!

Please help us out...We want to play this sim.

Stefos

P.S. What version of Direct X are you using?

I put in the DXD39.dll in Sys32 & a copy SysWow64 and it bogged my system down to extremely slow.

Here is my take on the Mig Alley Win 7 64 bit install,for me it works perfectly.If you follow these

instructions you should be OK:-

1. Drag and drop the contents of the Mig Alley CD into a desktop Folder.Right click the install file
select properties-compatibility and set to Win 98/ME and install.
2. Do the same with Patch Mig123 eg.set compatibility to Win 98/ME and install.Dont worry about any
error messages that will probably appear.
3. Install Patch BDG Migalley v0.85f once you have set to Win 98/ME compatability.

4. Copy the Smacker folder [233mb] fron the Mig Alley CD into the main game folder c:// rowan/MIg.

5. Locate the "root" file within the game folder.Open with notepad and change the text to:-

0 "C:\rowan\mig"
1 "C:\rowan\mig"
2 "C:\rowan\mig"
3 "C:\rowan\mig"

4 0 .
5 1 .
6 2 .

7 0 .
8 1 .
9 2 artwork

10 "C:\rowan\mig"
11 1 English
12 "C:\rowan\mig"
13 "C:\rowan\mig"

14 0 .
15 0 .

Create a Mig Shortcut to put on the desktop.You will now be able to run the Sim without the hinderance

of the CD.

Try this: https://web.archive.org/web/2018081...e/i0d3bo25slj73wu/BDG_MiGAlley_0.85F.rar

The v1.23 patch can be obtained on File Planet, after searching using "Mig Alley". https://www.fileplanet.com/41164/40000/fileinfo/Mig-Alley-v1.23.

Those two patches should be downloaded, and extracted into the main game folder where everything else is. Run them as suggested by Lezzall above, and follow his directions to the letter.

This other thread references this thread, and adds some tips:http://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4431774/any-help-for-mig-alley#Post4431774
