Lol... I put "-" on all the first names and just put my name on the last name, that way it reads "Col. Ice" hehehe...
I read somewhere that some guy names them after ex GFs or something like that so he doesn't get too bothered when they die horribly after a faceful of plasma.

And promptly gets killed in one shot, from across the map, despite being in full cover, smoke, and the enemy suppressed.

I read the new game has better alien AI than the orginal Xcom and you can get some good firefights going between the humans and aliens? Do the aliens show any coordinated fire and/or movement in the new xcom?

The Aliens were constantly trying to outflank me and because of the terrain (and I suspect my poor skills) I had to fall back. They use cover well and seem to use co-ordination. There seems to be some sort of mind-control from one of the Aliens, telling the others what to do. Not sure what would happen if I nailed his little grey ass, would the others panic?

Yeah, that's a cool and cheap two-for-one. But there are a couple of aliens that can mind-control YOUR guys. He gets some attention from my snipers straight away. Then the melee Muton guy too, damn!
I was hoping to be able to "train up" a second squad but seems like that's not possible since I seem to be only getting the big UFOs now.

The alien AI was not so good in the original. The aliens seemed to stay put and wait for your squad to stumble upon them. I remember always putting the new grunts on point! LOL

Not true! I've been in two missions wherein the aliens seemed to be patrolling, at least that's how it sounds like from my squads. In one mission, the "sounds" were definitely crossing left-to-right so that's why I'm assuming they are patrolling. Currently no way to be observed without being attacked on sight. The other mission had my guys take out one of the UFO's rooms, then they were jumped upon by a patrolling group.

That's the stuff MadDog. I would never let my principles (or DRM) get in the way of buying a game I really want to play.
