Does this mean i win the bet?

Luthier-

"The situation sucks. I see no reason to sugarcoat it with bull. I don't want to go make empty promises or try to prove that black is white. We released a faulty game. We did more than even seemed possible to fix its faults and add improvements, but in the end it was not enough. There has to come a point where we begin to focus on the future, and Cliffs of Dover just becomes something we can all learn from"

Seems that's the lot for COD, game over. I wouldn't expect the release version of the patch to add anything else of note from what we have now.

The last hope is the sequel fixes some issues, but that's a long way off even if we get that far.
Notice how Luthier does not rule out a MMO.

Ouch, that hurts, but seems right given the state of this game

Well.. that's it then.

No more hyperbole, rhetoric, nor allegory. sigh

Let's hope the remaining development team have learned something from all this.

It would be nice to believe that this draws a line underneath the whole debacle but I'm not so sure it does.

From what I've seen so far BoM is more or less CoD - but browner.

And all the faults of CoD will continue, presumably, to reside in the DNA of the sequel.

Its not all bad. Clod does have some outstanding features. Classic tech project gone wrong. Underestimating the manhours required, overestimating the returns. Personally I would like to see the TD boys licensed to have a crack at whats under the hood. They seem to have good understanding of the underlying architecture of the IL2 series.

Constantly amazed by the people who keep coming back on the 1c forum and praising luthier for his abuse and arrogance.

Just weird. I imagine these are the same people who go to prostitutes and pay to be treated like a golden retriever, or whatever.

From the post:
Quote:
[a question:] Quote:
I know you stated the next CloD patch will be the last, so that means any fixes, advances and such into the game engine that come from the sequel will not be translated at some time or another back into CloD? Will Clod be completely abandoned in whatever state the final patch leaves it with no hope small updates, etc?

[Luthier:] Why would you think that? We’ve never done that before, and I’ve always stated that our plans remain the same. There were many issues in the original IL-2 in 2001. After a few updates to the original, Forgotten Battles was released and there were no more updates to the original Il-2. That doesn’t mean it was abandoned however! You can still play all of the original Il-2 content with 1946, all carried over and updated with the rest of the engine.

This rather makes it sound that the content of CloD will be bundled as a section of the sequel(?)

True Heilkill, i would of rather lost, been blown to pieces and shot down in flames by Luthier and his team with this bet.
I take no pleasure in this post, in fact im more disappointed than ever.

When ever i disagreed with Chivas i always hoped he was right, because if he is, then we all win.

Chivas posts are always what should be, in that i guess hes spot on most of the time...if Oleg was still interested in flight sims and involved with COD.

Luthier is right, COD is just not a very good sim, in fact its below average at best but with some stunning features that just show us what could of been.

I hope the sequel is done right, if it is then i will buy it.

I will wait until the announcement is err...announced. smile

What a monstrous betrayal of the IL2 community!!!! cuss

We have had bathroom boycotts, bet winners , catastrophic test failures.

pitchafit IL2COD deserves the prize for the longest drawn out piece of refuse. winner

I am now officially disgruntled, nothing left to do but douse in maple syrup and sit on a hill

of fireants. Furbs, your cynical bet may well have put a curse on COD that has caused Luthier to

admit defeat, the ultimate treachery. I hope you are happy with yourself. frown goodnight

Im not sure who is to blame, Oleg, Luthier or bean counters?
My guess is we will never know for real, but i think prob everyone involved is to some degree.

COD just took too long, too many changes in code, too many staff changes, cut too many corners with poorly managed direction and ideas.

Luthier to me is just trying to make money from sims(his job), he has no love for them, and doesn't care if we do. He has no idea about gameplay or we wouldn't of ended up with spitgirl instead of a campaign system.

I think its time everyone finaly move to War Thunder forum, as it is currently the only hope for a proper -working- sim to come.

Lol Bobbi,I thought you would have something to say about it.

CoD is now permanently removed from my hard drive.Lesson learned. As for any sequel, forget it.Not with my hard-earned money.

War Thunder may or may not be a 'proper sim' but it's fun and that's where I am heading.

Now the bet should be whether or not the sequel actually makes it to release.

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.
