I hope this is ok to post here.

I checked the steam link and it's only $12 and change or so for the bundle. That's not a lot of money.

But, the thing is, I can't seem to figure out what I'm supposed to do in this game. I mean, is it like FSX where I fly around looking at scenery or is it a combat simulator where I'll be fighting in a war? Can I fly with wingmen in the Hind and blow things up?

I'm just confused by this product and there isn't much chatter about it, except that development on it seems to be going slowly.

You're on the right track

It's a cross between the sand-box open world of FSX (within the limits of the included Southeast-Asia and Seattle maps), and the mission oriented campaign of a combat sim.

There's three types of missions:
-Time trials (outside of main campaign)where you run through a set course of obstacles
-Campaign story play, where you advance a plot
-Campaign side-missions, where you earn cash to put toward repairing and acquiring new helicopters.

I think there's easily $12 worth of entertainment here. The free patches they've come out with even let you import content from Arma II (if you own a copy). There's not much to do after you've gone through stock content (although the new Arma II imported content might see the renewed interest from the mission-making community)but every once and a while I do find myself jonsing to buzz Seattle in a Hind smile

Very tempted to get the whole package now..at that price.

Are there any community created single player missions available for the Hind add-on now? I mean, at that price it's a steal no matter what..but it would be interesting to know how much playability there is there..

Can Steam Hinds be applied to the DVD version of ToH?

I think the problem is you cant buy the DLC until you've got the Steam base pack.
It was the same with Flight, but as the base pack was free you could just start to download it and then start the DLC download, and then apply the Steam DLC activation code to Flight and get the actual DLC from Windows Live... quite a palaver!
Would be tempted to just buy ToH again, from Steam, but too much to do...
Cheers
Keith

Same here. Jumped on it last night. I don't know how long it will be before I mess with it in a significant way, but at least I have it, and it was dirt cheap.

Is there an actual manual available for the Hind?

Edit: Manual Here!

So much potential here..but really, really clunky implementation and almost no guidance in the sim..

How do I get out of the helicopter? I see a "Get Out" command and an "Eject" command. I've mapped them both to keys but they don't appear to do anything..

Too cheap, couldn't resist, got the bundle, still 8 gigs to go. D*mn! that's a big download.

I've always just used the mouse to select it from within the scrollable context menu. IMHO, With the BI games, you're better served in general to assign a Hat on your HOTAS with the following commands:

"north"= Increase selection (not sure if that's exact, but you get the idea)
South=decrease selection
West: Select (again, not sure if that's the exact command)
East: Cancel/exit menu.

In operation, pressing North or South will bring up and scroll through the context menu, pressing West will select the highlighted item, and pressing east will exit the menu.

I have three major problems with TKOH. One is the track-ir and cockpit implementation which makes it very hard to move your head around the cockpit in a good way. There is always something blocking your view and the instruments are too hard to read. The second is even more serious, basically I cannot make my Logitech G940 work well enough. The controls are too sensitive, especially the pedals. I've configured them to be least sensistive but it's still too jerky. The third problem is a less major one but still annoying, dirty windows! Everything look like it has a fine spray of dust on it, both canopy and dials. Combined with the poor 6-axis view implementation it feels like I'm flying in a see through lunch box.

Other than that it's an ok sim. I love the idea but the arma engine is just too clunky these days. High hopes for an ARMA III version though and I'm hoping it will be Take on helicopters - Vietnam by then.

Is there a way to turn off the little cooling fan in the cockpit? I guess the rotation is only slightly off my refresh rate because it looks like it is barely spinning and is really annoying looking..

Two more requests - is it possible to NOT have the screen blur when you are in pause mode (ESC)..and likewise when you die.. Tough for a screenshot guy like me to get any good shots when I can't pause the sim.. Hmm..
