It is my understanding that "Chili" originated as a BEANS ONLY dish...beans seasoned with chile peppers and tomatoes which was a staple of the poor in Mexico. As it moved to more affluent areas, chili con carne (Chili with MEAT) was more common. As it moved through STILL more affluent areas, it became more about the MEAT than the BEANS.
In New Mexico, there is a Green Chile Stew usually made with pork and Green Chile peppers and sauce which is phenomenal.
..and yes.. it seems that the correct spelling (at least down New Mexico way) is CHILE and not CHILI for the PEPPER itself and derived products, while CHILI with an i refers to the dish commonly made with Chile peppers, beans and meat..

Looks great. I usually add chopped onions on top. A side of some baked beans, perhaps. Certainly some potato chips or fries. And DrPepper!
And yes, I freely admit to topping my chili dogs with mustard and ketchup!

When I cook chili, of course with kidney beans, I add some corn (or maize, had to babelfish it) too.

What are your American hot dog sausages like? There is quite a choice. The average common hot dog is a skinless sausage with a mix of pork and or beef or chicken or turkey or all of the above. Better hot dogs, like Chicago style which are generally kosher, have skins and are all beef. Chicago Dog.

Direct quote from the Wikipedia on Chile "Origins and history In Spanish, the "chile" refers to a chile pepper and "carne" means meat. The first documented recipe for "chile con carne" is dated September 2, 1519. The ingredients were boiled tomatoes, salt, chiles and meat. Bernal Diaz del Castillo, one of Hernan Cortez's Captains and the source of the recipe, states in his book, that the Cholulan Indians, allied with the Aztecs, were so confident of victory in a battle against the Conquistadors the following day that they had "already prepared cauldrons of tomatoes, salt and chiles" in anticipation of a victory feast. The one missing ingredient, the meat, was to be furnished by the Conquistadors themselves: their own flesh. (The Discovery and Conquest of Mexico--Bernal Diaz del Castillo)" The meat source kinda freaks me out! Check that, it totally freaks me out!

only time to have chili with no beans is when you eat chilidogs I agree with that. I'd also say it's optional if you're making chilli cheese fries.
I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

I just made a batch of chili on Monday. 2# ground beef 1 big onion diced (slightly big chunks)(from my garden) 1 big bell pepper (from my garden) 4 garlic cloves Chili powder smells really good already! fry until meat is brown, then... 2 cans whole tomatoes, hand crushed (my canned garden romas with fresh basil from the wife's herb garden) 1 big can V8 Spicy Hot vegetable juice 1 big tall can Brooke's HOT chili beans (hot spiced pinto beans) 2-3 diced jalapenos (from my garden) 1-2 diced habaneros (from my garden) cover the top with chili powder a splash of dill pickle juice (sounds weird, but adds to it really!) Salt to taste...I use a slightly large amount to take away the acidy tomato taste Pepper...same Simmer for at least an hour I serve it with fresh diced onion, maybe shredded colby-jack cheese, and either crackers or Fritos corn chips. Most of the time Texas garlic cheese toast to dip. If I want a twist I'll throw in about a cup of macaroni noodles and make chili-mac while it's cooking. Yup, chili without beans is just for hot dogs. Everything thing else needs chili with beans...including fries and spaghetti.
