First game in years that made me punch my screen. Its good, but so frastratingly difficult and random that I can't recommend it to anynone.

I think this one sums it up pretty good:

http://www.pcgamer.com/previews/ftl-preview-2/

Very addictive, got to bed at 2 am, it`s one of this "only one more jump" games.

Don`t expect cool graphics, it looks like it`s 10+ years old. And it`s difficult, even playing on "easy" got me killed often.

I like this guy's videos for gameplay overview/reviews, Quill18 on youtube.

FTL Part 1

FTL Part 2

Might have to pick this one up, looks like fun.

Loving FTL, it reminds me of some of those classic games I used to love on the C-64 and early DOS, where the concepts and graphics are somewhat simple, but there is fun gameplay and depth underneath... spent a couple of hours playing it already and it definitely has that "one more turn" hook to it.

It can be a pretty hard game though and luck is a factor... for $9 this is fun IMHO.

You really have to look at it like one of the old arcade games. It is designed to kill you at some point. It is not about winning it is about playing and getting a high score.

Yes you can win... but it is a ton of skill and then a ton more luck.

God,

I hate it. Today, I finally had two time a halfway decent ship together. But fighting an enemy ship AND being boarded killed me twice. Even though I had anti-personal drones.

Grabbed it this afternoon. Played twice on 'easy', really enjoying it.

Will try the next round on normal and see how long I can last.

Really fun gameplay, being able to pause at anytime makes it more approachable. Great game.

Love the retro feel of this game. Reminds me of gaming in the early 90's when it was more gameplay and less gfx and cash grabs. Although from my limited game the fights have either been too easy or too hard. They just kill me. Hope it gets better.

Bought this last week and it's all I've been playing lately!

The gameplay is simple. You have a ship that you need to get moved 8 sectors away to help stop the rebel mothership (boss).

Each sector has beacons that you can warp to. At each stop, something random can happen, whether it be given the choice to help someone, fight another ship, or have nothing happen.

There are stores along the way in each sector, if you can find them, and if you have scrap metal, you can use this to repair or rearm your ship, or buy weaponry or augmentations or crew members.

There are so many ways you can play through every single time, given the random nature on how you deck your ship out and what crew you have. Certain species of crew can give you perks, and in some instances, having the right crew member on board at the right time can unlock things for you.

There are achievements, as well, and they're difficult to attain, which gives the game a lot more replayability as well.

I can't recommend this one enough. Super addictive, fast-paced, easy enough to get into but challenging enough to stay interesting.

As one of the little memos stated once: "Don't worry about losing, it's part of the fun. Trust me on this!" ... and it's true!

I like customizing my crew and if I lose, you can just click restart and you're back with the same ship and crew right from the beginning.

I've unlocked two other ships so far, which I haven't played much with yet.

Check out the FTL forums for lots of helpful game tips, like how to maximize scrap collecting, boarding parties, what systems you might consider targeting, etc.

I got the achievement yesterday called 'Death By Asphyxiation', where I targeted an enemy ships' O2 supply and their crew all died. I got a bit more scrap for that than just obliterating the whole ship.

Awesome!

Bought it a couple of days ago and love it!

Yes, due to the randomness it can be frustrating at times, but that's all part of the fun.

At least for me it is.

My FTL install was updated on Steam today - anyone have an idea what has changed?

I really enjoy the game. Proper little timewaster!

I bought it from the FTL devs themselves, you get both a DRM free download plus a Steam key, best of both worlds biggrin though I play on Steam most of the time.
