For Eyefinity on Any AMD card, you have to Have at least ONE Active Display Port Screen or Active Display Port -> DVI/HDMI Converter.
Unless you have a Flex Edition, which has hardware added to allow you to use 3 DVI ports (VPU Clocks?)
My Setup is Left Screen HDMI->DVI Cent. Screen, DVI -> DVI Right Screen, MiniDP -> DVI (Active).
Desktop Resolution is 5760x1080 (No Bezel Correction.) Gaming Resolution is 6048x1080 (Bezel Corrected)

DVI/HDMI monitors require a timing signal. My video card produces only 2 such timing signals. I had to purchase an ACTIVE adapter to generate the third (also it converted HDCP to DVI). Some more modern cards generate 3 or more. Do this homework before you invest. Sapphire FLeX Edition cards have hardware to Generate the 3rd Timing Signal. AMD Cards can Handle 6 Displays, But the DisplayPORT 2.0 Hubs to allow 3 Screens on Each MiniDP Port arent availible to the public yet.

It depends on what your budget is.
You WILL need an active miniDP adaptor - this is very important as Eyefinity will not work without it. A quick note about the DP Adapters is that you dont need it at all if you have a monitor that has DisplayPort, this might be obvious bu since you seem to more or less presume he doesn't in this post i just wanted to point that out. The adapters are only needed if your monitor only has a DVI connection. If you have reasonably new Dell monitor for example it most likely has DisplayPort.

Skate, now I'm really confused. How are these guys running 3-4 monitors and like 1 or 2 I-Pads off of 1 ATI 7970 card? Are you saying that even with the ATI card I will only be able to run 3 monitors until this special Display port 2.0 is released? So in other words, the Geforce 670 is equal to or better than the ATI(as eluded to in Tom's write-up)? i can run 4 screens wide off my single 7950OC, (2x MiniDP -> DVI, HDMI-> DVI, DVI->DVI). I run 3 Screens Eyefinity now w/ 2x MiniDP and 1 DVI, So thats 1 SDS (Single Display Surface) at 6048x1080, + an extended Desktop Screen at 1080p the HDMI Either Goes to my HDTV as extended Desktop for Windows Media Center, or I turn it off. Or if I choose to, I can run 6 Screens, if I use a Dual Head adapter that maps 2 screens as 1, and set them up in 3:2. Example: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/toxic-hd-7970-eyefinity-6gb,3264-9.htmlHowever,,in the case of DCS, You can use Small USB Powered Screens to display Gauges/MFDs, the USB screen's dont use your GPU, or you can hook DVI/HDMI Screens to a 2nd card for the small screens, and set windows to extend the desktop. In the IPADs Case, you're Running an App that displays MFDs using IPad as a Networked Display Device, something DCS Does Well. It's just a matter of configuring DCS's LUA File to put the MFD Data where you want it. (There's A Guide on Eagle Dynamic's Forums).
