Day seven of my campaign presented we with a beautifully timed OCA strike on the Sondok Airbase, about 130NM from Osan:

Runway heading is 200-20, so 020 will be my attack heading. I've equipped both planes with 12 durandals, center fuel tank and four missiles for self defense. There's also an escort flight in the package, that should deal with any airborne threats.

Starting on the taxiway in pitch black, I request permission for take of and soon i'm airborne and heading towards the target:

It'll will take about 25 minutes to get to the target, in the mean time i setup my datalink and two offset points that will insure exact alignment with the target runway. I saved the midpoint of the runway as my waypoint 15. Then i can create two offset points in DEST submode, 10000 feet from the waypoint in runway heading and that'll give me precise information later on.

Meanwhile it's getting brighter and brighter...

I also setup my weapons profile, to release all 12 bombs in one pass. 500 feet ripple will stretch them over the entire length of the runway, only the thresholds will remain intact

Getting closer to the target, i switched to CCRP mode, which shows two offset points and steerpoint in between. That insures exact alignment even 40 miles away. I also setup my HSI course to 020 heading to show me when to turn on the final heading.

Alignment is complete, but the difficulty is that you can't see the runway until the last moment and it's too bright or NVG. Time to get to 1000 AGL and over 500 knots.

BOMBS AWAY! I've switched to CCIP when i saw the runway. I didn't make it straight in, so I had to do some last second corrections to insure perfect alignment. But that's the difficulty of the dawn strike, cos it's too dark to see the runway further away and too much light for NVG.

Time to haul ass, popped flares and chaff while turning to home base.

Turning to final

Tuchdown, just in time for breakfast

Very cool!

I remember backintheday when I was an avid F4 pilot. Having survived the first day and night of a campaign and seeing the sun rise while going north was quite something to behold.

Congratulations on surviving a week.

Awesome AAR CTR. I thought you made an AAR of an MP sortie...

Anyway, very cool, and shows how to properly bomb a runway, not like the way we do it, lol! No wingman on this flight?

About the wingman, yes he was on the flight, but i didn't lock the target steerpoint in my FCR, so i couldn't issue attack my target command. That was first mistake and the other was i put two offset points at 19-199 instead to 20-200 and that's why i had to to last second corrections. I did the same mission again later and it was perfect.

Live and learn

I am still amazed by this sim. Over 10 years and I still can not believe how fun it still is. Great AAR and please keep them coming.
