I'm having a blast with this one. I had come to deeply dislike the fundamental gameplay mechanisms of MMORPG, but this one just dumps all the annoying things and innovates in ways that perfectly suit me. I just can't list how many cool things I've already found in this game, be it the cool dynamic events, the group dynamics where all players can group spontaneously and share the benefits, the fact that every single way to play helps you gain experience (even World vs world pvp, which is such an awesome game), rewards you for simply exploring the world (which is so much more a living one than the usual sterile MMORPG where all that ever happens is monsters spawning an patrolling along a short rigid path) and discovering things. It never forces you to lose time (instantaneous travel is possible between known location, no more paying to go from A and to B while losing 15min), it doesn't make you pay a subscription. To me, this is the closest to playing something like Skyrim with multiplayer. I love it!

If only they had gotten away from 'press buttons 1-4 for attacks' then I would have been interested. Why can't someone do something different in an MMO?

In this kind of game you have so many skills and so many attack types that it would be simply impossible to do it all just by pressing mouse buttons:) Mashing LMB works in Skyrim where you have like 1-2 attack types. Plus combat in GW2 is very dynamic. No way just standing in one place and pressing buttons. You need to move all the time plus dogde the incoming attacks. There is no auto aiming like in other MMO's. Forgot to mention the great idea of underwater exploration with combat and really nice looking arts during loading screens. Hero's window

IMHO it is definitely not like WoW or any other generic MMO. GW has it's own unique system. It is more oriented on single play. You don't need a party to fully enjoy the game. In traditional MMO's without a team it gets boring quite fast since all the good stuff is hidden in raids which you can't do alone. In GW you can join a fight or an event at any given moment, help anyone you see and you always going to get an XP or loot. There is no such thing as loot sharing. Everyone gets it's own as long as you performed some actual action. Your buffs and heals work on everyone around sine everyone is your ally. It's like a huge party on a server. The real cool things are those dynamic events which you should join since they give a lot of XP and other nice gifts. Usually everyone in the vicinity of that event will rush there and participate in it. Events differ. Sometimes it is a fight with huge boos where you need 10-15 people to defeat it, sometimes you need to gather some materials and bring to someone (depending on how much you gather you get more or less XP and loot at the end of it), sometimes you are defending a village from an attack. And sometimes it is task where you do not have to fight but rather think. Those events are really important part of the game and they happen on the main map. You get seperate instances for your personal story which is different for each class and the choices you made during character creation. Another really great thing is character progression. There are no strict roles to play. Anybody can be anybody depending on what kind of weapon you use, what kind of skills and traits you choose. So it is a very fluid system. You can select two sets of weapons to switch during combat and change your tactics within seconds. There is a lot of variety in it. Of course you can't be great at everything at once but still you get a lot of room for experimenting. There is also a really rich crafting system. And another thing is the underwater exploration. I mean there is another big world in lakes and rivers. And of course underwater combat is different from the one on land. You use different weapons and skills. Like you see, the game is nothing like those popular MMO. IMHO is much better. It is huge with tons of things to do and levelling is not the most important part of it. Exploring this vast land is. You get also a pvp play (like duels) and wvwvw (world vs world). Have not played those yet but i hear it's a blast since combat in GW 2 is more based on your skill rather than items you have. It's more action oriented. Hope it helps a bit

It must be ideas from the design process as there isn't a Commando class or helicopters lol.
