After getting the faceAPI I've got FaceTrackNoIR working. Built-in cam FPS is decent, about 20 to 25, and I've changed the Z shift to zoom instead of the standard FOV change so I can read the HUD and MFDs. However, it looks like it needs some serious axis tuning and I've got no clue where to start. I recall I never had to edit much in EECH back then but it seems DCS A-10C is another matter.

I'm looking for some help on how to tune FTN/DCS.

1. Do I need to work with the axis tuning options in DCS or with the tuning of FTN?
2. I've bound the NUM5 to centering FTN, the same bind which is set to center the screen in DCS, is that a wise choice? Seemed like one to me.

Also, I'm able to visualize the problems I experience but I'm having trouble adjusting the settings to fix this.

3. The translation of head movement does not extend enough. I almost have to turn my head 80 deg. to the left or right to barely see the tips of my payload. Sometimes the cam even loses track because I turn away too much. Same goes for shifting along the axis. I have to put my chin on the desk in order to get a nice view of the MFDs.
4. It's too sensitive. It looks like breathing alone causes my view to shake hard. I can hardly press a button using the mouse because the view is constant in motion/shaking.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Perhaps there are some guides or tutorials covering this? I haven't found one yet here or over at ED forums.

You have to spend some time playing with the curves. If you leave them set at default it's like your pilot has epilepsy and is having a seizure. The first thing to do is to set a dead zone. On each curve setting, move the horizontal line at the bottom up to around 10. This makes it so if you move your head just a little bit nothing will happen on screen. The rest of the curve settings are personal preference and just take time to get tweaked just right. As far as getting your head to turn and see behind you, move the vertical line on the right for the yaw setting all the way to the right. You should be able to do some exorcist style head movement if you do this. Pay attention to the axes on the curves and what they measure. The vertical axis is what your head does and the horizontal is what your pilot will do in game. Knowing this will help you set the curves.

Make sure the EWMA smoothing is checked off and move all sliders all the way to the right. This makes it less sensitive and smoother.

While messing with the curves it helps to have a mission loaded with a ramp start and alt-tab out to change a setting and test it. It won't be perfect but I've got it stable enough to use it and it's much better than using a hat switch. Have fun!!!!

Vegasbob, I take it you only alter the curves in FTN and leave the curves in DCS for what they are?

Correct. The curves in DCS are for your controller, not facetrack.

DCS also offers the ability to alter the headtracking curves in a same way it offers the ability to alter the controller curves. But OK, I'll stick to FTN's ones.

i think i stopped using FTNoIR for the same reason, couldn't do a start up procedure without having to fight the motion tracking's constant moving and losing track because i turn my head so far to see the side panels and stuff.

i'll have to dig around again just to get it working again as I've deleted all the special DLLs out of the folders for both A-10C 1.1.1. and DCS World.

So far it's not exactly doing what I want.. for some reason when I uncheck EWMA filtering, it also disables the center view button.
