Apparently two flavors are coming out... MechWarrior Tactics which seems like a computerized version of the tabletop game and MechWarrior Online which seems to be like the shooter versions like older MechWarrior games. So, which one will you be playing?

I will try MW Online but I fear it will be COD in mechs in a small playing space instead of large playing areas in which different tactics and attacks/defences could be used. Certainly not the turn based....*snore, zzzzzz* ooops sorry, I nodded off just thinking about it

mechwarrior online - i have the same fears as Mace. But until it comes out, they are unfounded. Also my PC is probably not going to run it. Is there any point but to stick a PvP scenario time and time again on a map with slight variations with no reason for the fight other than bragging rights.... Euuugh
Tactics. Well i would love the tabletop experience however, looking through some of the footage - the hex map. Euuugh. The small map euuugh. So i voted tactics as its probably the only one i can run. They missed a big trick here. But what do you expect with Free to play. Its like console games brought to your PC for free.
I Just want a fricken Fleshed out Mechwarrior experience that has not had corners cut to make it on the free to play arena.
DCS : Mechwarrior anyone ?

DCS : Mechwarrior anyone ? Ooooo.... Interesting thought! Of course, significant portions of the DCS user community would probably overheat at a flight sim that makes educated guesses at classified aspects of the latest fighter aircraft. I can only imagine the meltdown that would occur if somebody seriously pursued injecting battlemechs into DCS World / Combined Arms. Would be a blast though, on a properly labeled server. Of course, the Intellectual Property / licensing issues render that idea essentially moot for the forseeable future. As for corner cutting, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. A lot of that comes down to the eye of the beholder, and what you expect such a game / sim should have. It seems pretty safe to say that the developers are hard core MechWarrior / BattleTech fans. They seem pretty determined to do it right. If the income keeps rolling in, I suspect they will address almost everything in due time.

I find the "Dark Ages" of MW to be meh. Meh! Meh! Meh! I prefer the Clan invasion era the most. I pity the shooter aspect... some cool things in the tabletop like Artemis and other "networked fire" stuff is near-impossible to do in real-time shooting. As for the hex graphics and digital tabletop, well, that's very nice considering what is available on the tabletop version (ie, totally flat!)

I'll give both a shot. I like a good turn based game, and back in college someone had a homegrown TBS MW game on an Amiga. MANY late nights on that just looking at a hex map, trying to make it to a lake before the forest fire blew up the mech. LOL More interested in something like Mechwarrior 2 (didn't have the first) as a slow paced "sim-like" approach, but both could be fun.

CH was about the best MP experience I've had. Perfect set up. The clan could meet up and BS while in the garage building, a squad heads out to the war on one of hundreds of battlefields in all kinds of regions and weather conditions. BRILLIANT game. If only it had been cockpit view and they enforced better building standards. The first few months of that game, when builds were more "mechwarrior-like" were amazing. Even with the MP servers long since dead, I've still got the game just for the memories.

I'd look forward to something like that on new hardware. In that type of game there was also Mech Commander, and Mech Commander 2, both of which were pretty cool

Is there a proper radar in MW Online? Or the magic one like in all the other MW games? Can you power down and not appear on radar?

I liked the first AC years ago, but since then it's just too fast moving and frantic. I like the slow plodding mechs of CH and MW.

I voted Mech Warrior Online but I really am not sure about that one. It looks pretty good. Seems to play pretty good. But, it also seems sort of "shallow". I am basing this off of just the wee bit of info I have seen so far so maybe there is more then there appears. Since this is going to be almost or totally an online "shooter", I am not interested in paying a sub or "lifetime" sub of any kind. Especially if the game only includes a few maps and no "strategic" meta-game. Hopefully, I am wrong.

i think the main way they are making scouts more interactive is that they can spot an enemy, and friendly missile boats can launch missiles without having direct line of sight. Kind of like datalink.
