Archie, states are allowed to make different laws regarding where you can carry. Here is a really good reference about where you cannot carry in Georgia. In fact, this site is recommended by the state as a source of info for these kinds of things. http://www.georgiapacking.org/gflpol.php

Here's the deal with those signs, at least in my state...I carry concealed, so sign or no sign I carry. If somehow the store management detected I was carrying they could ask me to leave and I would. As long as I comply with their request to leave I am not in violation of any law. The only places I am prohibited from carrying are govt facilities(courthouse, local army base etc etc).
I make it a point not to patronize businesses with those signs if I can help it.

By the way, I taped and edited a video of our campus police giving a presentation about their active shooter response program to Columbus State University (CSU) faculty, staff, and students. The presentation went pretty much as the video in the original post. The presenting officer was asked about his personal opinion on why he didn't like the idea of people legally carrying on campus and he said his main objection was that when the police arrive on the scene they might not be able to tell the bad guys from the good. I think that in and of itself this is a valid concern but do not think it even comes close to outweighing my immediate concern for my life being endangered by flying bullets . . . which they insist I fight using books, bags, fire extinguishers or whatever I can find, just as long as I don't just sit there and do nothing.
The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

In NV I can carry regardless of a no guns allowed sign. The only place I can't carry is into a government building example Post Office, schools, dmv, etc. Also if the establishment has a metal detector its a no go as well, example the stratosphere tower. Several establishments have signs posted but I can enter regardless, if the manager sees the weapon he gas the right to ask me to leave and I must do so. Although concealed means concealed...

The nuances of US gun laws are lost on me...but it does seem a bit odd that if I could get a permit to carry a concealed hand gun legally; i would not be able to enter certain buildings with this "legal" item. What happens in such cases ? Is there a place to "check in" your weapon at the door ...or do you just take your business elsewhere ? What sorts of places would have such a restriction ? Gov't offices ? Banks ? (Not looking for a flame war here...just curious ) It depends on state laws. The US is kind of a mess like that. In NC most government buildings, schools and banks are verboten for CC. Also anywhere that alcohol is served or that you have to pay for admission. Other than that, any person or company can post signs forbidding CC (private property rights and all), but as far as I know there is no criminal penalty for violating those postings *unless* they ask you to leave and you refuse (then, you'd be trespassing).
