Hey guys,

Although I have pretty much stuck to PC sims to get the hands-on flight experience, I recently saw that a fairly new board game, Hornet Leader, Carrier Air Operations, has been published. If you have tried it, what do you think of it? I have read reviews, but I would tend to trust those who may be more knowledgeable about actual carrier air operations.

Thanks for your time.

I haven't played the boardgame. However, you can download a demo of the PC version of Hornet Leader at Matrixgames. It should give you a fair idea of what the boardgame is all about.

Also boardgamegeek.com is a great reference for impressions on the boardgame.

That's a pretty high rating on BGG.

I have that game and its a pretty nice solo strategy boardgame.

Most of the gameplay involves building and managing your squad. It's very well done.

Hornet Leader and Hornet Leader Carrier Air Ops are 2 different games though. Hornet leader is quite old while CaOps is kind of the updated version of the original HL with quite a few improvements.

There are other very interesting titles in the series: Phantom Leader being of them, set in the vietnam war era and Thunderbolt/Apache Leader, covering desert ops.
