JF18 would be your best bet. Judging by the comments...

Even when it came out, that game was a dog. Jane's F/A-18 is the best, and in many ways, it is the best combat flight simulator ever, and I say that being a Falcon player and having played just about everything out there. At three bucks, though, it would not be much pain to find out for yourself.

That's the beauty of WinXP....compatability is pretty much off the table w/the greater flight sims.
I pity those that lust after Win7 or Win8....they end up w/so many complications.
Your operating system should be like a truck, ya just get in, turn the key and drive.
No bells or whistles...nothings gonna break or hang up.
Cars are a different story. Only the older crowd will understand-

I just got this game at GOG and while it looks promising I've had a few problems with it:

1. I have Windows 8 and after installation I right clicked on the .exe hit properties then put it to Windows XP compatibility and nothing it still CTD, then I tried Windows 98/ME compatibiity and BAM it worked!!

2. Got it working, BUT I hit preferences and a box shows up with all the video options, yada, yada, yada but I can't use my mouse to click on anything I had to use the arrows on my keyboard and even then I still couldn't find where I could go to get my flightstick going!!

3. ONce in the cockpit the only way I could move around was to use my mouse I mean VIEWS, clicking the cockpit, etc, you name it!! I can start the engines and everything in there clicks/works beautifully, just really I need my flightstick and if possible get my pedals to work, let alone I don't think TrackIR will work!!!

The good thing is it comes with a manual that I"m still reading, I just figured like in all games there is a quickstart and a fast way to just get your controls set-up and take it for a test drive, but it's not happening here as of yet!!

I have Janes F15 and F/A 18D and really those two are some of the best sims out there and pretty much blow everything nowadays away!! I was hoping this sim was somewhere close to those but so far not even close!!

Congrats on getting it to work. The only way to get TrackIR function is installing a TSH patch. However the patches do not seem to be compatible with Win8 and can be glitchy with Win7.

It's working for me fine under Windows 7, except it won't recognize my x52 pro joystick as being the primary method to fly it. It recognizes the buttons, but even if i program the axis to function as up/down/left/right commands it still doesnt want to work. Irritating.

F-18E had better graphics, and modeled a few systems better, like JHMCS (though not accurate, it tried), but there weren't really any wingmen. The deck crews and plane captains and so forth added to it immensely. But for the over all game play and mission and wingmen dynamics, Janes F-18 wins.
