How difficult would it be to modify the carrier's IFLOLS light to be the same type as the aircraft's collision lights? That way we'd be able to see it out from 10-1 miles out.

Just an idea that's been kicking around my head...

Hmmmm I wonder. Rudel might be the best to answer that.

I hope Frenchy sent an e-mail to the gentlemen offering help.

I am seriously thinking to pick up C++ again, just because of this. smile
I just need to find some time...

Nope, no email yet that I've seen.

Cheers

Wouldn't that be unrealistic? Not sure the IFLOLS can be seen that far off in 'real life(TM)'

Of course it doesn't pop up on the center of your screen in real life either smile

I actually don't know how far away I can see an airframe's collision lights, it might be less... ummm..... hold on. :p

edit: Okay, after a test, it turns out that the player's F/A-18E collision lights actually cant be seen from up to 10 nm away. :p I could barely make out the lights at 2 nm, none at all at 6 nm, and visibility improved rapidly going from 2 nm to 1.5 nm to 1 nm and to 3/4 of a mile, which was good.

The only problem is that the lights tend to abruptly lose their luminosity at around .1 or .2 miles. <_<

From what carrier pilots have written about it, it seems 2 - 1.5 nm is pretty realistic compared to the real thing.

OK.. I retract my concern.. it was the 10 miles in the original post that struck me as unrealistic.
