I must have an old manual. I can't find a damn thing relating to carrier ops.

I figured out launching is performed by hitting the break key?

The tail hook is "h".

The Tomcat has no flight path indicator?

Landings have been SLOPPY so far. I guess the sim does not seem to model collisions, thankfully smile

There is no communicating with the boat? I was trying to land it it started turning frown

But, I killed a whole mess of planes on my first mission so, that was fun smile Inside of 10 Miles a Mig-23 gave up trying to run away and turned back towards me. Right as my RWR lit up, my 9 Mike slammed home and trashed his SARH shot. Neener neener smile

For screenshots, you should find them in User\Saved Games\Thirdwire\StrikeFighters2NorthAtlantic\Screenshots.

Ooookay. You using SF2NA? Which tomcat are you using, cause the NA F-14 does not have a RWR bearing screen, just an indication in the top right and audio.

Launching is done via hitting your wheelbrakes key. Be sure to be at military or max power when launching and pitching up...

Tomcat has a flight path marker when landing and taking off, at least using stock TW F-14. Also an ILS. When did you try to start landing? Did you follow the waypoints or skipped them?

And yeah, obviously not the greatest carrier landing simulator.. :P

The SF2NA Tomcat sure has RWR bearing system, when the RWR detects radars then look at your radar MFD.
When a sam or AAA is tracking or locking on to you you can see from what direction on your radar MFD.

My best regards, Kodiak.

it should be a simplified ILS display on the HUD,

Launch off the Carrier, ALT-N to jump, press W until the only waypoint left is the final approach/landing waypoint. press ALT N again, and you'll jump to a position just before you begin final approach, engage autopilot, and wait, as soon as you hit the waypoint where auto pilot drops gears, hook, flap, you'll notice the HUD display change, you'll have a horizontal bar and a vertical bar.

Nothing to smack your own head for friend.
We all miss things left and right, it's human.
And I understand how you missed that, because one part of the RWR in the F-14 is next to the HUD and the other part is on the radar MFD, and in the heat of a battle or evasing sams we don't look down a lot in the cockpit.

My best regards, Kodiak.

Not to mention that the earlier version of the Tomcat (from 1974) doesn't have RWR at all. The 1977 version was upgraded with RWR and improved ECM.

it has RWR just no RWR light block on the HUD frame.

Yes, and it says it was upgraded with IMPROVED RWR & ECM. So the '77 ecm & rwr are IMPROVED as compared to the '74 version. smile

After looking again at the sentence I have to say you migh be right Miszak. Although the phrase from the manual "The F-14 is upgraded with improved ECM and RWR by 1977." is not clear enough (at least to me). I read it as: the F-14 was upgraded with the improved ECM (implying that there was one in earlier version which was improved) and RWR (as there wasn't RWR before). Although the term improved could refer to ECM as well as RWR.

If the RWR was indeed present in '74 version - where was it's scope located (GIB's position?).

i think the Tomcat had RWR Audio Warning only (Beeping/Beep) before They added the warning lights to the dash next to the AoA lights,
the improvement would be that it was upgraded to be more than a beep beep beep (tracking) Beeeeeeeep (lock), to having Warning Lights and Direction / Position indicator on the lower MFD.

That makes sense SkateZilla, thanks for the answer.

Edit: After second thought I have to say I'm dumb today - the earlier version had to have RWR if it had ECM already. To use ECM effectively you have to know what kind of emitter is painting you, or maybe it just flooded the air with random jamming emissions (i.e. random wavelenghts/continuous/pulse...)?
