Actually part-located at Auschwitz 1, I'm surprised that this was able to be produced in Germany at the time of filming.

Well the war didn't end until May 1945 and then Hoess was a defendant at the Nuremburg Trials which lasted several months and then he was extradited to Poland where he was tried again and then executed.

That's debatable since he had nothing to do really with the "Final Solution" and he left Germany and the regime in 1941 to fly to the UK in order to try and facilitate peace talks.
