I am still in the process of figuring this out myself. I can turn with rudders, but not very sharply or controlled it seems like... and I don't have toe breaks on my rudders so I've set buttons in the controls for left and right wheel break, but it seems they don't work when in-game. I tried to use buttons on my HOTAS and on the keyboard both with the same non-effect. I press the button/key and my plane will still keep rolling straight as if nothing is being pressed. Anyone have any ideas?

I find the best way to get tight turns is to give it just enough throttle to get it moving, apply brakes (I have my brake button set to apply both brakes) and full rudder, can almost turn on the spot at times although I do find occasionaly the rudder doesnt seem to do much, seeks a bit hit and miss.
*edit* thats for the Spit

Anyone have any ideas? As said in the message just above yours the Allied planes don't use the left/right toe brakes key binding but the single brake and rudder. They still have differentiial brakes, it's just the control setup is not the same as the Axis aircraft in-game.

In real life the allied aircraft didn't have toe-breaks (I think, I didn't fly them ). The control issue is that normally the main control yoke would have a handle to squeeze to activate the differential brakes, but that's been modelled in CloD as the use of the main brake key and the rudder control. As Senseispcc mentions above, it's compounded by the fact that the order of the 'press brake', 'move rudder' is important. You can tell if it's working as there is a cockpit brake pressure gauge (left/right) that you can see changing once you've got the 'mode' right..

I think where folks sometimes have problems with Cliffs of Dover is that they think the controls are universal between the different aircraft types. The brake/steering methods are a prime example. How often do we see someone ask for advice on operating controls but never mention the aircraft they're trying to fly? It's likely they believe that what works for one aircraft in CoD should work for 'em all. Vive la difference!
