So, I guess everyone liked Spielberg's remake of War of the Worlds, except for me, that is.

Th first half of Spilberg's remake was great but the second half kinda ran out of gas IMHO.

I've yet to see the original War of the Worlds.

The one with Gene Barry?
If so, it's a good movie, it has little to do with the original story by HG Wells but follows the spirit of the radio adaption by Orson Wells fairly close.

Wow, good call on the Clonus Horror, Jedi Master! I forgot all about that. I have the MST3K version somewhere, and I remember watching it and saying, "Hey, wtf?".

And then promptly forgot all about, because as soon as I hit forty, someone teflon-coated my brain cells. Nothing sticks now.

MST3K is probably the only reason why ANYONE remembers The Clonus Horror. smile

I felt about the same..it built up really well then sorta just fizzled. Best part was Cruise and his awesome RUNNING!!

A friend asked me how come everyone around him was getting vaporized by the beams from the alien walkers but Tom Cruise kept dodging them?

I just answered that he's an awesome runner.

Planet of the Apes was just bloody awful. I usually like Tim Burton flicks but it was painful to watch.

The Time Machine. Can't stand that movie...

Totally agree that the second half of Spielberg's War of the Worlds ran out of momentum... The first half was OK.

I didn't mind Independence Day when it first came out but when I saw it again recently I was kind of surprised at how lame it actually is.

The best running in WotW is in the first part so the second part does not really have a chance. Independence Day has limited running by Will, and Will can get an ok pace up , re iROBOT running scene, but he has nowhere near the speed out of the blocks or the simply stunning style of Cruise.

If Cruise made a movie called iRUN it would have a good chance of smashing all box office records regardless of content.

That's not hard to do, just take all the scenes of him running in past films and edit them together. It's probably about feature-length.

As for why Tom Cruise didn't get hit in WotW, that's easy...if he was the film would've ended pretty early!

BTW...if you've not seen the original 1950s version of WotW, you should be banned from watching ANY SF ever. As part of the Holy 1950's SF Trilogy (with The Day the Earth Stood Still and Forbidden Planet) it should be required viewing before you're even ALLOWED to watch any other SF!
