... one Philips Saeco Xelsis Espresso Machine.

http://www.loveofcoffee.net/best-reviews-saeco-xelsis-digital-id-2011-05-16

Mine is black though and doesnt have this finger-print ID thingy.

I`m a coffee lover. And I like stuff like Cappucino, Latte Macciato and Caffee Latte. Many friends already had such machines, however I always shied away, becuase of the difficult maintenance.

Well,

three weeks ago, in the office, we got the small sister of the Xelsis, the Exprelia. It was a gift for making a contract.

My struggle was almost immediately over. Very easy to set up. And very easy to clean. You can open the front door of the machine, and the whole stuff is behind it. The whole brewing group can be taken out with one move.

So I spent the next week searching in the net, found a board for Philips machines.

So I finally found the Xelsis, which also makes Caffee Latte one-touch (the Exprelia doesn`t have this option). The second detail which impressed me, is the milk-system. It`s entirely in the milk-carafe, so you don`t have any milk inside of the machine, which helps keeping it clean. The carafe is automatically cleaned with hot steam after every use.

Another great feature is the wake up timer. You can program up to three times for every individual day, so the machine is warmed up and ready when you come out of the shower to get your first coffee.

A small let down, the froth could be a little warmer, but this is something with most machines in this price-range. And the cup-warmer is nearly useless. So I heat up my cups with hot water.

I got a great deal in an online-shop for 999 . And I love it so far. still have to find the right beans and settings.

Btw. here is a promotional video:

Canada, eh!
Hope your Saeco is more reliable than the ones I've used. I gave up on the super autos and went this route a few years back:

Must admit though, the convenience was nice smile

How big of a shot can you go? Is it adjustable?

Archangel,

from what I`ve read they indeed seem to be more reliable than earlier machines. At least they give a three-years warranty.

As for the shots, yes they are adjustable. How many beans are grinded in three steps. How much coffee, milk and froth is used can be set individually for everything, however it isn`t measured in ml or something, you have only bars you can adjust (you can set up up to 6 profiles, so 6 persons can program their own likings into the machine).

With Espresso and Espresso Lungo, you can simply press the button twice, so you get a double portion (a double Espresso Lungo normally is my kick-starter in the morning, followed by a Caffee Latte or a Cappucino).

Nice setup you have there.

I'm happy with a Keurig. Don't need an espresso machine!

I like my Aeropress, it was only $37 plus another $16 for an aftermarket metallic filter yet it produces coffee and espresso as good as very high dollar setups. I live in an area that's lined with authentic Italian coffee houses and none of them seem to make a better espresso than I can with this thing, or a coffee for that matter.

As a bonus its easily portable enough to bring along travelling or to work.

The only thing I need now is a good grinder, I'll probably go with something like a Hario hand mill or some other kind of manual burr grinder, good electric grinders are expensive.

Wow, I consider myself lucky my wife stopped looking when she found the Nespresso. She absolutely would have demanded one of those, lol.

And the best part is not only did I have to learn how to use it and make her coffee for her, but I've probably gone through over 100 capsules to her 5 or so and I'm not really a coffee drinker.

Tell me more!!!!!! I used to love drinking a pot of good coffee out of my standard Braun coffee maker. After a trip to Italy, I started making myself a couple of 'espresso' shots with a cheap but effective small IMUSA aluminum stovetop moka pot.

I am really intrigued by this Aeropress!! My only concern is that I really like my coffee and espresso/moka piping HOT and I am afraid that this will be too cool.

I put the grounds in the press, heat a glass of water for 1.30 in the microwave, put a third of the cup into the device, stir for 10 seconds, press it directly in a coffee cup, toss the rest of the water into the coffee cup if I'm making a coffee and then toss the compressed used grounds into the trash and run the press under the tap quickly to clean it. Done.

The result is incredible flavor and no bitterness and acidity, depending on the beans and brewing method it can come out tasting like a mocha. If the water's too hot it'll make it bitter and isn't good for the press but you can always give it another 20 or 30 seconds in the microwave if you have one at hand. The only real downside I've found is that because of the low temperature of the water and the abbreviated brewing process you need a fair bit of ground beand for a given amount of coffee.
