RIP! Fine musician, good singer, and all round good guy. Loved his mandolin playing and drumming especially, but he could do it all.....so versatile. Gone to the great gig in the sky. Thanks for the tunes. I was happy to see that he kept playing on as long as he could, and he will be greatly missed.

FYI pretty sure hes just near death still anyone have a report that hes died? Links?
You're right Hitch, it seems he's 'knocking on heavens door' atm, I knew he was ill already and just assumed the OP was right. Still, the thoughts still apply as it looks like he hasn't got too long, inevitably.
And on a side note, as much as I loved Levon and the Band, the day Willie Nelson "passes" (if he goes before me) will be a dark day. Seriously, that will change everything for me. Silly, maybe, but...
Hi, I'm Larry and this my brother Dayrle, and this is my other brother Dayrle.
It was announced a few days ago that he was dying; it is a sad day indeed. The Band's music has been there to soothe my aching soul on many occasions, for that I thank you, Levon. Your masterpiece has been painted, and there's now a bed and a place to lay your head in Nazareth.
Sorry to disagree, but this still is one HELL of a country, and for many reasons…one of those reasons is Mr. Helm himself, and the many young artists he’s mentored over the years. Our wide variety of music is a real national treasure, and is one of many things we should be proud of. I can’t say I like all of it, but that’s why we have so many varieties, there’s something for everybody. I guess we could apply that logic to other facets of our country; we don’t have to like everything, but as a whole, still one HELL of a country.
It was 1990, give or take, I don't remember When the news of revolution hit the air The girls hadn't even started taking down our posters When the boys started cutting off their hair
The radio stations all decided angst was finally old enough It ought to have a proper home Dead, fat, or rich, nobody’s left to #%&*$# About the goings on in self destructive zones
I have always been fond of his character in the Right Stuff. Didn't know much about him when I first saw him. From different movies I've seen him in as well as things I've seen on tv with him I gathered he had a musical background. I've always liked his acting but didn't know about his extensive musical background till much later. Seemed like a neat guy. I found this 80s interview with him awhile back and he seems like he would have been a good friend to have.
Kind of interesting, I just ordered The Last Waltz a few days ago as well as Coal Minor's Daughter which he also acted in.
