Hello,

First of all apologies if what I'm asking is common knowledge for IL2COD, I looked for answers but have been submerged by so many layers of posts and didn't quite get the answer I was looking for :-)

Basically I was wondering if steam is requirement for cliffs of dover to run. ..I hate steam but this is just my personal opinion :-)

Also with the recent patch udpate I was reading about, I was wondering if the current il2 cod vanilla is ok for a newbye :-)
please note I've been simming for hte past 20 years, I'm just new to il2 COD and avoided moving from the older il2 until now.

I'm especially interested in decent offline campaigns with decent AI and comms ( nothing too crazy, a request land permission option would be appreciated for comms )

and in terms of performance would the latest version run ok on a highend pc from last year?

THanks!
Luca

A Patch is due any day now that should resolve "some" AI and graphic issues...........

Im running CoD on a pretty low end machine with the steam version ( I think you have to run on Steam ) and its generally ok to fly around.

I would say to anybody to get Cod simply just to sit in the beautiful Cockpits, they are truly amazing to behold.
There are many created missions and some campaigns which you can try out, and you can even make your own mission to suit.

I would say Cod ( with all its long term teething problems and BoB2 is a must have for any WW2 simmer.

Cheers and good luck

S!

specs would be good, as mentioned previously- edit -seen specs, should be ok, but don't expect every option on full, you will have to make a compromise or 3

offline campaigns/missions- see here
http://airwarfare.com/sow/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&view=viewcategories&Itemid=73

user made ones imho are better than the 'somewhat limited' (trying to be polite here) campaigns that come with game.

regarding AI- the quick missions do a bad job here, but it is quite possible to 'tame' the worst excesses
http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/newreply/Number/3557054.html

there is meant to be some improvement in comms in forthcoming patch (and about time too!)

Steam- afraid it's compulsory- but if your interests are offline it is quite easy to switch steam to 'offline mode'- at least this way if your internet goes down you can still play

Belgium but not in Flanders
If I did look correctly at your PC you could play a COD game with middle rate graphics the only thing you could do to boost at a low cost your system is to buy a second gforce card and install it in SLI. pilot

My PC; wink
Win7 x64
Asus p6x58d
I7 975 3.75Ghz System & game ssd 120Gb (great for the system and for my games).
12 Gb (6*2Gb) ddr3 1600Mhz memory
Geforce gtx580 1.5Gb two of them SLI
Trackir 5
Logitech G940.

Actually, I have pretty close to the same system, and I can run 60fps (vsync limited) at full bore quite well. Having a monitor with only 1680x1050 helps in that regard. It will really depend on OP's monitor rez.
