Plamya is making the flight profile decision depending on target distance. I do not see any reason (also the constructors not foreseen any) to override Plamya. The V-880 missile has plastic nose, that would fail (melt) over Mach3 at low altitudes.
(The Patriot and S-300 family use fused silica nose, to withstand the heat of hypersonic speeds at low altitude) Well, I don't know. All I can see are my missiles consistently falling behind those pesky F-14s, even when I let them close to under 100km. My latest bitter experience (rename to GPX extension), miss distance about 5.9km, missile with over 5000km/h speed remaining:

That seems pretty awkward for me.... To lost a big, expensive missile because of a plastic nose cone... They sure have more apropriate materials (at least they had a MiG-25/31 aircrafts, which had a + 3000 km/h top speed, and their nose cones didn't melt).
Please observe the Vega effective destruction area.
Seems that in 1986, US Armed forces are pretty well familiar with Vega, because in all Libian scenarios, aircrafts are allways out or going out of destruction zone, right after launch... Anyway, the SIM proves to me that any claims from Libians (and some russian sources) that NAVY losts F-14 in those engagements, are just propaganda....

Anyway, he SIM proves to me that any claims from Libians (and some russian sources) that NAVY losts F-14 in those engagements, are just propaganda.... To be fair, on the screen, that Big Positive Spike (Missile) does seem to overlap the Negative Spike (Target) and disappear, then the 2nd Positive Spike also seems to overlap, just like you might expect for a hit. It is only when you go to the Magical Plotting screen (a facility open only to us) and see no X, then run out to Google Earth do you realize the missile crapped out by kilometers... 13:46 24th of March, 1986. It's not all that difficult -- the target return will lose its turbine modulation on kill, if it's not powered by rockets and have no modulation to begin with.
And that positive spike is the estimated impact point, the computer never truly knows where a missile is once it's launched...Seems so, at least.

SAMSIM v924 Beta-2 Released Prepare for the BIG BOOOOM!!!Added the possibility to launch the V-760 15D (Guideline Mod.4) Nuclear tipped SAM Missile, for the S-75M3 Volhov (SA-2E Guideline) system. http://sites.google.com/site/samsimulator1972/ Also fixed two bugs: - Suicidal RPK behavior of the Volhov system. (not switching RPK signal off, after the last missile detonated) - No Neva missiles at newer Linebacker-II Scenarios.

FYI, the d'load for pt2 of the beta2 seems to be broken, I d'loaded it twice and both times on extraction got error/data/115vega/dat.,that file is also empty.

Start unrar with SAMSIM_v924_Beta-2.part1.rar. SAMSIM_v924_Beta-2.part2.rar is just the second part of that file, winrar will automatically unpack it, if you place both files to the same directory.

Which switch must be flipped/clicked before the nuclear missile can be launched against a target?

When I get lazy and don't check the thread he launches nukes at us. Great man, thanks!!! Here we go with one of my after action reports: Asuluk training ground.
Practice target: Ground Target

00:00:56, Missile exploded on Channel-1 Practice target Ground Target killed by SAM. (miss distance: 0m) This was fired with T/T with out the ground proxy charge on... How did this actually work? Also, forgive my ignorance, but were in the forum was the way to launch nuclear missile discussed? I have used the forum search and couldn't find it.

Which switch must be flipped/clicked before the nuclear missile can be launched against a target? On the Q screen, change the fusing to the setting to the right of USU-gated mode. On the Z screen, change the guidance algorithm to one of the two to the right of K mode. When the little command-detonation red lights go on and cannot be switched off, you have the right settings.

"at low altitudes" - this is important part. Afterall speed of MiG-25 at low altitude is pretty small. Yes, MiG-25 heats up on 20 km altitude, but what's the difference? They had a materials which withstand the high temperatures. I think this plastic nose is only for missiles, which are for training purposes (i.e. not real ones..) When the little command-detonation red lights go on and cannot be switched off, you have the right settings. They can be switched off on me (with work on K3 switch) plus when missile detonates I don't see any detonation at all... How should nuclear blast looks like? +1! : 13:46 24th of March, 1986. I think this plastic nose is only for missiles, which are for training purposes (i.e. not real ones..) The air at 20km, where the MiG-25 makes Mach 3 is substantially thinner than at sea level where the MiG makes about 1200km/h. [/quote] So the trick is to shoot from 85-90km (the plane turns before it reaches 80).
