Happy Easter, Members.

I've scheduled a Daily tournament at Augusta in honor of today's final around of the Masters.

Also, starting tomorrow (4-9-12) I've scheduled a 4 round tourny at Kiawah Island, site of this year's final major on the PGA Tour.

Just played the Augusta Daily and was wondering if you turned the green grid off on purpose, or was that a mistake?

That was a pretty rough round as far as putting was concerned...

Oh Dang! If the grid was off that was definitely a mistake.

Sorry about that.

We should get some.....interesting results.

I'm hoping I didn't do the same thing for the weekly tourny at Kiawah! ARGH! cuss2

Woah. That was brutal.

There is nothing to help you read the greens at all. No pattern or anything on the greens to help you out. I swear the only thing that helped me was that I just watched the Masters and I had a good idea of some of the breaks on some of the holes. The pin positions matched what I saw on tv really well.

I had an ugly 4-putt for a double-bogey on hole #7 but, otherwise, I played solidly. I had a few bogies but had birdies on 10 and 18 to finish +5. Considering I only hit 50% of greens in regulation I thought that was pretty good. I'm pretty sure I parred all the par 3's and that's not easy to do.

So, +5 is the score to beat, gentlemen.

I just checked the Kiawah Island Tourny, I set it with Putting Grid OFF. UGH!!!!!!!!!

I think it sucks that it won't let me edit or delete a tourny before it begins. They should definitely let you do that.

Anyway, I'll be more careful next time. Sorry about that, guys.

Much respect for you guys that played that round under +10 without a putting grid... I tried 2 holes, triple bogied both because of 3 puts... said, "not for me", lol.

Sheesh! This is brutal. Kudos to you guys that can break par!

I worked my butt off for a +3. Only made two birdies the whole round. Had a double-bogey to offset those.

Without the grid you have NO idea how the putt is going to break. I tried moving the camera around and it was of little help. Luckily, the greens are sort of like Harbor Town, relatively flat, for the most part. No wild breaking putts like Augusta.

I remember years ago, on the PC at least, the greens had a mow pattern on them that could help you read the green even if the grid was turned off. But, yesterday's round at Augusta and this tourny at Kiawah, the greens have no discernable pattern to them at all. I find it virtually impossible to guess how the putt is going to break. My strategy was simply to get the ball to the hole, or past the hole, and get a feel for the break on the next putt. Ugh. On the two occasions when I got my approach shot close, I just hit my putt firmly at the hole and hoped for the best. Luckily, they fell in.

This round sort of reminded me of when I used to be pretty decent in real life. I never made a lot of birdies, I'd make my share of bogies but I scrambled like hell to make a lot of pars. That's what this round was like. I only hit 7 of 18 greens in regulation, so I felt shooting a +3 wasn't too bad.

I can't compete with most of you guys but I'm actually enjoying the struggle to some degree. It really makes me think my way around the course. I can't afford to just fire at every pin. I have to take into account where I might miss and avoid trouble. In fact, on the final par 3 (I needed a 3 wood to reach it) I deliberately aimed into the bunker on my tee shot because I didn't think I'd be able to carry the water hazard. The strategy paid off. I one-hopped into the bunker and then got up and down to save par. Had I fired at the flag my ball would not have cleared the hazard and I'd have made double-bogey, or worse.

I'm in no hurry to play without the putting grid again but this is still fun.

I was actually surprised at how well I played. Managed to finish the tournament even. I'll take it.

I did notice that you can get kind of an idea of how bad the break is by the meter once you address the ball. It did help me quite a bit. I actually just had my usual hard time judging speed of my swing. Break was never really that bad. All the greens are pretty flat.

Anyway, I'm glad I tried it and I'm very pleased at how I finished. I bet the experience will help my game when we get back to Tour Pro.

Nice hat, looks good on you though.

My strategy has been to really grind on the approach shot to get it as close as possible since reading the green is tough. The greens aren't too undulating if you can get it on the proper level which helps a bunch. When I think it's perfectly straight it just burns the edge...like the real thing smile2

Also watch how the ball rolls once the approach lands and if you blow one past on the first putt.

I didn't see Augusta as a choice on the CC last night, did do the Kaiwah course. Got a hole in one on one of the par 3's. That was pretty awesome. Still didn't have a putting green grid though. Thats alright the course wasn't too bad.

I got that I think on the first round. The following rounds were bogey, double bogey, and bogey. I think it was the 16th hole. I actually played online for the first time against people, got my ass kicked.

Bogied the first hole at Royal County Down. Finished the front nine -1. But then I caught fire on the back nine (including an eagle) and finished -8. Best round yet on Tour Pro.
