Pet theories? Im pretty sure its a fact, why else would they need to rewrite?
Edit, lets say "rushed" coding. Not even that - much of it was pre-alpha Code. Pretty disgusting that it was released at all.
What WW2 Fighter pilots say about Angels and Airspeed:
"Nice job of getting down to the basics - love your choice of a cover!" Col. Clarence 'Bud' Anderson
"I have enjoyed reading angels and airspeed, it should prove good reading for all interested in combat tactics and their application related to the fluid air environment and state of technology in WWII years. All the best as you make it available." - Col. Charles McGee - Tuskegee Airman

Going on-line can still be fun and a challenge for me, but I just need to join when theres not that many on the server(less stuttering that way). Off-line is a good place to practice things, but it can get boring quickly... by the way I got to get one of these, funny but I bet interesting Haynes- driveway Bf-109 repair Manual's

Chivas, why would it take longer than 9 months to sort the AI? it should be ready to go if they have been working on it. I'm not saying how long its going to take, I'm just saying people will come back to the sim if and when its working. The Dev team have been working steady on the AI and Commands etc for the last year, and should be able to implement and test some fixes after the performance patch is released. I'm also sure they will continue to work on the AI etc depending on the necessity and priority thru the life of the series. The same way the AI in BOB WOV has continued to improve over the last five years.

It may be disgusting, but it made if possible for the sim to be finished instead of cancelled. There is no way the development would have release COD in the state it was in unless it was absolutely necessary.

I used to love the ol Haynes for my Frogeye Sprite I spent thousand of hours trying to keep going. I don't know what it is but I could stare at manuals like that for hours. I've always been the same way, I think its a love of mechanical close tolerances, and restoration, and yes some degree of insanity.

I agree with most posts here and the sad fact is that CLOD was a product released on the good name of IL2, with absolutely outstanding good looks especially in the cockpit. Now this alone was good enough to sell the game in advance. So much in advance that it was never anyway close to completion before release. She still looks gorgeous, still the most prettiest of them all ( in cockpit) but shes not come anywhere near the age of consent and I have come to the conclusion that if a company is prepared to release a unfinished product ( for high sales ) they surely wont be prepared to work on patches for months and years after release when they receive no income from those patches what so ever..........
Whats the answer? What are we to do? I cant keep my eyes off her even with the knowledge that she`ll crash and burn me every time I reach for the stars in her.
S!

The problem for me is that gameplay-wise, and from an offline perspective, CloD is still the same disappointment as on release day, more than a year ago. Not a single one of my major complaints have been fixed so far. Sure, I'm looking forward to the performance patch, but honestly: I don't need one. I can run the game on high settings just fine. So the coming patch won't change a thing about what I really care about: pretending to fly in the Battle of Britain. I have no idea how long it will take the devs to tackle the stuff that's important for me: AI, FMs, radio commands, weather system, improved terrain that actually looks like England (hedges!), ships for the Kanalkampf phase, etc...
