The game is truly incredible...no matter how you fly. Gaijin has an obvious love of planes and they know how to model them properly. I had so much fun just flying it that I did touch and go's for an hour in the 109. My decision to give CloD a permanent pass and wait for World of Planes has, I think, been solidified.

It really does sound excellent, one of my principles loves of combat flight tims was simply the free flight feature - just taking my favorite warbird up for a sightseeing tour with a few aerobatics was as much fun to me as any air combat situation - something I really miss since falling off the PC upgrade ladder years ago - now its just me and my Xbox and a few precious hours of free time a week !

Sounds to me like this title really delivers and might just bring the good old days back , albeit on my console!

Getting VERY interested in this game, judging how much folks here seem to be enjoying it. I do have one biiiig Q.

How is looking around the cockpit handled, ie. right thumbstick? Click and hold right thumbstick? Gotta know!

yes you click a button and right joystick for the game controller. I'm using an ace-edge FCS and it's very nice. I do wish there was an option for looking about the cockpit, the snap view is a bit touchy, I'd like to have the option to pan my view.

If you guys are impressed by this console game, you shouldn't play the PC version war thunder because you will get a heart attack wink.
BoP is an arcade game with sim elements, while War Thunder is a sim with arcade elements.

After you will play War Thunder you will never want to go back to other flying game.

Why thank you for climbing down from your ivory tower to educate the lowly peasants that inhabit the console area.

Couple of questions for Your Highness, if I may:

Since you mentioned "BoP" are you talking about Sturmovik or Birds of Steel?

Have you actually played Birds of Steel yourself?

ahh nevermind him... 8 post and all info about War Thunder... which is the PC version of Birds of Steel or something like that... who knows, but he obviously is a huge fan or works for War Thunder in some way shape or form, lol... just a little disrespectful to come into our console forum and tell us we've got the wrong one... no doubt War Thunder on PC will look and play better then our console Birds of Steel... but lets see, I've got both Apache for PC and 360... PC looks and plays better, but no one is ever on, no MP games, nothing... where the console shines is, ease of getting up and running, no tech issues and a robust and always on friends list and multiplay.

So I'll stick with my console for MP, and might pick up the PC version just to check it out and support a great company... but both platforms have it's + and -.

Yeah, I'm not about to sit at the PC after working. I'd rather sit on the couch and use my 96" screen with full surround sound and enjoy my console game. After getting my home theater set up a few years ago, it's the PC gaming I "never want to go back to."

Anyways, back to the topic at hand. :-D

I'm thinking about picking this up, got a gamestop card burning a hole in my pocket. I've had Sturmovik for at least a year and haven't played it since the demo. (So many games, so little time.) I only had a couple minutes last night to start the tutorial, but plan on delving deeper shortly.

It sounds like the consensus is if I like IL-2 Sturmovik BoP, then I'll really like BoS?

Still waiting for mine, newegg still shows as "packaging" like it has for the last few days. The other item I ordered at the same time is here. Guess they weren't quite as "in stock" as they claim.

Got it in after all. Just scratching the surface, but very impressed. You can tell this is the next evolution of BOP-->WOP-->Apache and now this.
Love the bomb sites on the dive bomber cockpit!

finished the US camapign... actually pretty good, and a good history lesson... I found that I could do the torpedo and bombing missions on realistic settings, but had to drop it down to arcade for the dog fight missions... not that I can't fly on realistic settings...some what, lol... but you can't even do a loop or some evasive maneuvers without spinning, yet the AI can...

started the Japan Campaign... was a little weird to attack pearl harbor, but it was a damn fine mission...wave 1 then 2, pretty much no opposition,,, look just like the pictures I've seen... pretty intense.

damn fine game... with some issues, but still very fun.

Yes I agree the aircraft seem to enter into a spin a tad too easily, though my wife says I fly hammfisted.

Part of the problem is it's hard to have fine control using the console controller, with a flight stick it is easier to keep it from spinning I think.

So No shame in using "realistic" mode with the console controller for me.

After reading all these glowing reviews, I think I'll pick this up. I too am a fan of the Apache sim on the xbox, and I trust you guys.
