I might have to try this "Take on..." sim. It is a sim, right? But that doesn't look like Seattle.

Is there any other helicopter that projects brute force like the Hind?

The Apache exudes deadliness but in a sleek way. The Hind is just a monster to behold. Love it. Might make me get the game if the FM is up to scratch

yes, please tell us about the flight model.
it was a dis-pleasure to fly helicopters in Arma 2.
i never had a problem with helicopters on X-plane, Flight Simulator X, DCS black Shark or Battlefield,
but the flight model on the Arma 2 series was ATROCIOUS.. TERRIBLE
(sorry to knock, but it is, and i want to praise Arma, but I CAN NOT)

so ppl, give us an update.. what is this RotorLib 4.0 like?

I like ARMA 2 & I like Take on Helicopters. I spent many hours playing the ToH campaign - it had a good storyline, beautiful scenery, good performance & good voice acting. Well worth the $40 paid. The sense of speed you get when flying low over the detailed terrain is great.

However the ARMA engine is not the best "flight simulator" in the world. I find the view system is limited and the flight dynamics below par.

I have the Take on Hinds upgrade. The models are beautiful & although the South Asia terrain is a poor relative to the Seattle terrain, it still looks beautiful.

I suspect the flight dynamic purists will still be disappointed. I can feel few difference in the flight model to the initial version of ToH & it still fundamentally feels like a flight sim forced into a land sim.

Having said that, Hinds is well worth the $10 upgrade & I hope this mini-mini-review encourages other to purchase it as a offshoot of the great ARMA 2.

Well, regarding Hind DLC for ToH I must say that for the first time in my life (well second if you count the PMC DLC for ArmA2/OA/CO) I'm disapointed with a BIS product and I have lots of reasons for this such as:

-> No career/campaign where you could use or explore all the potential of the Hind helicopter and it's variants. Would it be so hard to make a career were the player was a Merc where he could/must buy helicopters (including also the original light, medium and heavy helicopters of ToH plus the Hind and it's variants of course) and their equipment in order to play missions in the South Asia and thus earning more money and buy more stuff after completing the missions??

-> There are only 3 single player missions (Challenges) in Hind DLC where the player must engage INSURGENT forces equiped with DOZENS OF TANKS (mostly T-72s)!! This isn't even realistic to start with and despite BIS claiming that these 3 missions are random (there are in fact random elements within those missions) but the objectives are always the same and the enemy is always and mostly equiped with Tanks (mainly T-72s) so and despite those missions being a bit random they aren't that replayable!

-> Sometimes the helicopter (Hind) becomes unstable in a wierd way (flying fowards with only slight input on the clyclic).

-> The service truck (Ammo, Fuel and Repair) either don't work or it's very hard to for example rearm the helicopter in a ammo truck!

-> And between many other reasons, the MAIN REASON why I think that this Hind DLC is not worth purchasing (even for the it's commercial value) is that playing with the Mi-24 Hind in ArmA2 is MUCH MORE FUN than playing with the Mi-24 Hind in Take on Helicopters!! And this despite the Hind DLC in ToH having a better flight model than the ArmA2 Hind.

I greatly enjoy 'Take On Helicopters: Hinds' as an alternative flight simulator as I do ArmA2 to BlackShark2 or DCS A10 or ArmA2 and all its 'amahololic' derivatives. My question is more basic. How do I enjoy an alternate helicopter to the Hind?

I have to second what Ricunes stated above. ToH is awesome once you figure out how to install the Arma Chenarus scenery. The flight models, as of 1.05, are quite good. But Hind is, well, awfull. The pit looks like one of the cockpits from first-time plane designers on x-plane. The weapons and forward gunner implamentation are lazy designs that provide the absolute minimum functionality to justify release. I wish these guys would just say the obvious, "Take On" is simply a test bed for better helicopter models in Arma. That's a good thing. But as someone who has never playered Arma, I feel I have done more than enough to fund the experiment.

Get ToH. But stay clear of Hinds.

Kinda glad I didn't pre-order it now.

I wasn't exactly expecting DCS: Hind (drool!), but the poor cockpit is a bummer, as is the weak missons.

Also, if anyone's ever played the World in Conflict games, Hinds+Seattle+ Armas library of US and Russian Hardware=re-enactment of the first WiC campaign! biggrin

If the community starts using the Hind as a launch pad for mods/missions, I could see myself picking it up though.

The flight model will probably get hammered out though.
