Ouch.

I will pick this up for sure, as I only needed a very small excuse to get into the SF series (naval aviation flight sims are like chicken's teeth, plus support an indie dev) but based on Chuck's review I think I'll wait a few weeks for the construction dust to settle.

Good job on compiling it in such a timely manner.

The good news is that Third Wire and TK have a great history of getting out patches in a timely manner to address bugs that happen to make it into release (which does seem to happen a lot).

Once some of the show stoppers are patched I will be downloading...

Nice review PFunk. That sim just keeps growing and getting better.

Its fairly accurate - but I would expect you do another review when the bugs are ironed out!

Should see a lot of new and better mods with the changes he has implemented!

I don't have a problem doing a update article once a patch comes out.

Personally I miss my RIO a bit. I still get the feeling I'm in a one seater aircraft. Would have been cool with another set of eyes calling out the bandits when things get close. I also need a partner for volleyball :-)

One thing about TK as the ongoing support and access to patches has been excellent (so far). Too bad they never integrated rocket dispersion or mixed formations of moving ground vehicles (instead of them being all one type).

Fair article. I'm enjoying SF2NA, but it shouldn't have shipped in its present state.

In Jane's F/A18 I used to turn on "Audio Cues" that would call out waypoints and targets. It wasn't much, but it could create the impression for me that there was a guy in the back. It would be nice if such a feature made it into SF2.

Undercarriage lever a bit sticky was it, Sir?

I bought the game and it's a blast. Indeed sometimes I feel the need for a small patch and some of the issues are mentioned in the article.
I believe the PROs and CONs lists are a bit unfair as (at least for me) the PROs vastly outweigh the CONs and many of the CONs will anyway disappear soon through patching. For me SF:NA with its new terrain engine and other improvements is definitely worth the money.

I loved the Multiplayer that we had in Wings over VietNam. It was great getting a few guys together and running a strike mission on something and having opfor in a Mig coming at you.

Going to be grabbing this one and anything else I can get to make the full suite of games complete to give me something other than the workhorse flight sims of DCS and the WW2 rides of Aces High.

I'm having a lot of fun flying this as it is.
Yes a patch is definetely needed and I'm sure will be delivered.
With all the new features and eye candy, I'd recommend purchasing it either now or after the patch release.

The entire review feels abit like a hatchet job. I know its common to mention bugs, but its feels a little bit strange to have so much of the review adress them. Same with the comparison between freeware and payware F-14.

Other then that, it was good, consistant and decent. However, I would expect it to be updated once whe bugs are fixed.

This. In F-15, the back-seater also called out enemy aircraft and time to impact for bombs. I don't see why this sort of thing is missing from two-seat aircraft in simulation. Even Jane's U.S. Navy Fighters did that, in what, 1995?

I'm not sure I agree with the tone of the review. It focusses on the negative without expanding on the many positives of the Sim.

There are reviewers and there are critics. Depends if you take a glass half full or glass half empty approach.

I have paid my $30 and have got my moneys worth already just from playing single strike missions and trying different tactics against the Russian fleet. I havent even explored the F14 yet.

For some perspective, in sydney where I come from, a 2 hour movie if in a large cinema with 3D can cost up to $26. Now most of the stuff coming out in 3D scores on my scale 5/10 at best.

I agree with the reviewer that it is suprising that it was released with some glaring bugs ( but I think its related to the pressure that a small independent developer is under) but they dont "break" the game for me like CLOD did. From the Thirdwire forums , it seems that the people who have bought NA, are a much happier crowd and have identified the bug list , but are enjoying the product whilst they await the first round of patches.

My advice is if you are a strikefighters 2 fan , then it is worth it, you know the "after purchase support" you will get from TK.If you are not a fan already then it night not be right for you depending upon your outlook but if you have an interest in modern naval conflict then this will generate the excitement your after

Could not have said it better myself.

CLOD was given some time to fix the bugs before a critical review, yet this lays straight into SF2 where ThirdWire have a good reputation for fixing stuff quickly.
