No, not a Mosin this time. biggrin

It's a Mauser M48, produced in Yugoslavia in the immediate post-WWII years. It's also the last version of the Mauser rifle design to be put into production for any military. This rifle looks as good as the day it was made - near-perfect bluing, a great stock, and an excellent bore.

The 98 series is a hell of fun to shoot with!!!

I once fired a turkish one at a firing range,
almost as fun as an Enfield!

It was 1990, give or take, I don't remember

The girls hadn't even started taking down our posters
When the boys started cutting off their hair

The radio stations all decided angst was finally old enough

It looks like it's in excellent condition. A real piece of history.

Out of curiosity. How accurate are WW2 era rifles? What sort of grouping could you get with a rifle like this at 400 or 600 yards?

Cheers

Great-looking rifle! I remember back in the day being able to pick up Mosin-Nagants, Lee-Enfields, and P14/P17s in VG condition for $100 at Woolworth, and beautiful Swedish Mausers for around $250. I'd love to find a No4 Mk1 or Mk2 right now!

Like with any rifle, a lot is going to depend on the skill of the shooter and the condition of the rifle. That said, shooting "minute of man" over open sights with one of these at ranges over 300 yards is really good. Battle rifles of this era were meant to give the shooter excellent knockdown power with reasonable accuracy - after all, if you hit your enemy with a 7.62mm round somewhere in the torso, it doesn't really matter whether you hit them in the chest or abdomen. They're probably going down no matter what in such an event. smile
